I'm all about optimization when it comes to mobile design and these are seriously not optimized. Even slightly.

Sorry to say it - technically it really doesn't cut the mustard. It's actually a bit like trying an "extra hot" chilli sauce with three chilli-pepper icons out of four on the label, only to discover it's actually like McCoy's Chilli crisps.

I didn't see this post before but would like to reiterate the last question... care to share an example of what you consider a "seriously optimized" site? When you say optimized, are we talking about reduced file sizes and HTTP requests? Because I would consider many of the sites in that gallery to be at the forefront of the mobile first approach, built the who's who of front end developers (A List Apart, Designmodo, Stuff and Nonsense, just to name a few in the first three pages).
