I thought about registering a domain related to this, but after about 1.3 seconds I realized I have a little bit of a conscience and would never feel right profiting off of tragedy.

Yes its a tragedy but these are 3 of many domains that will be or have been purchased.

Removed my post. I didn't intend to imply the shooting was funny to me. The idea of monetizing and it coming from someone with the username juicify was funny. Oh well, I fail. :)

There is a huge difference between kiddie porn domains and domains as these. Kiddie porn domains will be used for one reason and one reason only...

I don't see how these domains are any worse than the major news outlets. How do you think CNN, MSNBC, or local stations make their money? I'm doubting they make most of their money off movie review segments or fucking cooking lessons.

You think the news TV stations come up with snazzy taglines for the war in Iraq and todays events ( already being called Virginia Massacre and Campus Rampage among others.) for any other reason than to improve viewership and earnings?

The fact of the matter is that the media doesn't report on these tragedies to perform a public service (though it is a by-product), they do it because its what pays for their nice cars and summer homes.

Anyway my point is that terrible shit happens all the time and nobody makes a peep about it for the most part. Not a lot of people seemed to bash Anna Nicole threads of people profiting off her death.

And don't think I'm not sympathetic to todays situation, so don't even try to pull that shit.

Were shitholes plastered with ads, pretending to have a DB access to all the victims' names just to install what is called a "dialer" - basically a ripoff program that will dial you into the internet via a pay-line, costing up to 60$ first connect and up to 2$ every minute.

Actually, I heard of similar scams after the 911 business and after Hurricane Katrina... people exploiting relatives trying to track loved ones to make cash... sad.

Here, if it bothers you that much why don't you BUY the bloody domains and then have them redirect to a memorial website? Life is good again - hooray!
 
I bought the domains

I bougth the sites, and that is precisely my intention. Well, not redirect, but rather, I am setting up my own memorial site for this purpose. Will I make money off these sites in the end? I hope so. But I didn't purchase these domains with the intention of SEO'ing them for the tragic incident and then just throwing Adsense up. That would be heartless - and I'm sure there are people out there doing it, but I'm not one of them. A lot of you are up in arms about nothing - these are legitimate domains, and you have no clue what the intentions of the registrar or the buyer (me) were. I'll post updates as I develop the sites, but I hope to have something decent up within the week. If anyone has any feedback you'd like to leave me, feel free to leave it in this thread or you can PM me directly. I do plan on monetizing the sites (probably later rather than sooner), but it will be tastefully done. If you don't believe me just keep an eye on these domains over the next few weeks.
