VPS vs. VPN

I know this topic has been discussed on WF before, but I am still not 100% which one I should lean to.

If I am looking to have a completely unique identity to login to PPC accounts, etc. without ever having to worrying about being traced, is a VPS or VPN the better option? I cannot take the risk that if connection is lost, I am dropped back onto my current IP address.

From what I understand VPS is like logging into a remote desktop on a different server that has a unique IP address? And VPN is basically just a way of hiding your real IP address by re-routing your current IP address through several servers?

Enlighten a non-techie please.

SSH tunnel on a VPS will do the same as a VPN.
You want to use a browser you never use for anything else (cookies etc can be problems). A $20 vps will give you plenty of bandwidth.

I have a brand new laptop, sitting in a box ready for this. This laptop will only be used when logging into the VPS or VPN for this specific project. I still am not understanding the difference.

60 fuckers looked at this thread and only 1 commented? You lazy fucks :338:

I've used Tor quite a bit, but it's such an old program and they haven't updated their IP rotation, so a lot of sites are catching on and banning the entire array of IP's available.

But it still has many uses at its disposal, so I would suggest Tor and Firefox (Vidalia on a Mac), if the possibility is available to do so. Free and easy.

You do understand the difference. A VPS stands for Virtual Private Server, it's like having a dedicated server, except here they logically divide a dedicated server into several virtual machines (each with their own RAM, HDD space and processor timed allocated, albeit limited). So it's a remote computer, you connect to it through Remote Desktop or VNC depending on the OS you choose to install on it and then do your stuff. Like mattseh mentioned, you can also choose to tunnel your traffic through SSH to completely hide your IP (you can use a dynamic SSH tunnel as a socks5 proxy).

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and you are basically given a hostname to connect to, a username and a password. When you connect to the VPN, all your traffic runs through their network so this hides your IP equally well. If you really want to be safe, go for a VPS. VPN services are quite limited compared to the vast amount of VPS providers out there, so I'd assume it's pretty easy to recognize an IP of a VPN service.

Hope this helps you understand the differences better.

You guys are too technical for me. Sounds like I am just going to get a VPS and remote desktop into it and call it a day.

You realize they can trace either one just by contacting the service provider. Now tor is better but every time I've tried to use it it's slow as molasses.

I seriously doubt Gorg is going to call the service provider and trace an IP. Additionally, I doubt if I sign up for a VPS through one of the top providers, they are going to give that info. to Gorg.

Come on man

I think you want a VPN.

You basically just hit connect to VPN, instead of your router or whatever and you just login and bam, you're running on a new IP.

I am going to be using this... Fast VPN - Secure Virtual Private Network Connection Setup - Purevpn.com to manage new google accounts. I think it will work, if that's what you're looking to use it for.

EDIT: I'm not very "techy" myself so I could be wrong, but I think that will work. It will only cost like $6 bucks a month with that site.

I wish I knew this shit better as well lol For some reason, VPN seems too easy to me, almost like it is so simplistic that it's easy to sniff out the real IP address OR that a Gorgle account would be banned immediately just because you are using it. Does VPN give you your own dedicated static IP address? Seems like that would be ideal as long as you only use it for that one account. If your IP is always changing, seems like a red flag to me. Fuck if I know.

Also worried about a dropped connection going to the original banned IP.

I'm pretty sure it really is that simple. lol

I think it's a dedicated IP and it won't change. Just make sure to check your IP before logging into your account to double check.

If you have a linksys router, and your only going to be using 1 account at a time... just look on youtube how to clone mac address. That will give you a new IP. I did that and had a new google account running for months but then they slapped the account (not banned, just killed impression share)

Why would I need to clone the mac address if I am signing on to a VPN or VPS? Wouldn't that alone cover me with a new IP address?

Though the bandwidth plan makes more sense for what he'd be using the connection for, wouldn't have a time limit on it at all, just however much it takes to download 100-200MB of bandwidth, assuming he doesn't browse ALL traffic thru the VPN.

If you're not technical at all, just find a VPN provider.

If you have a small amount of technical knowledge, It's quite simple to set up a VPN connection over a VPS or just tunnel traffic through a SOCKS proxy via SSH - just search for tutorials on those topics. If you're not comforable with that, though, a straight VPN provider is your best bet.
