Hey there!

I wonder if I would get the same links I got for my main site (the one I am ranking for) for my web 2.0 properties would it hurt my search engine optimization? It feels like it would since Google would maybe see a pattern, but I'm not sure.

Appreciating your help. Thanks!

Last time I tried getting any help here.

you are asking in the wrong place if you want to know whether the kind of link building you are doing will hurt your sites, because the only person you can trust with an answer for such a question is from the search engines themselves

Well, there is no harm in getting backlinks from social media websites.
Google treats all backlinks in same way, the only thing that matters is reputation of the page which is pointing to your website.

Take it easy Knoss :)
If someone is an ass don't take it personally man, this board has got a lot of spirit and personality. It's kind of fun really haha.

I stumbled across this threading, reading up before I started a new thread because I have a similar question (I will ask it here and take the heat off Knoss).

I was wondering when building Web2.0 sites if I should build properties that are SUPPOSED to be representations of my site, very transparent like I have xyz.com and I go to multiply and build an xyz.multiply.com page/profile. Then be transparent that the multiply site and the main URL are the same ..

Does google like "web presence"? Like when you have a facebook page repping your main site or a twitter profile that belongs to your URL. Do you do the same with web 2 or do you make some loosely related profile/page (that is NOT supposed to represent you or "be" you) and reference your site on them?

Which is more effective?

It shouldn't hurt you, if you do it a bit smart. The best way for building links even if they are the same randomization. The more random it looks the better it is.

You're over thinking this. As a general rule, more links = more better. And like others have said, the only way to test your theory, is by actually testing it on the search engines.
