Went thru storage with some of the stuff I had forgotten bout like my crap load of coins I collected as a kid growing up an army brat. Several books of US coins (including a '64 Denver mint pure silver kennedy half dollar), as well as bunch of overseas currency such as these (the rest are mostly pennies and very poor shape coins in the other boxes)

Half I don't even remember collecting, and some I remember I got cuz I kept exchanging different currencies every week at the local PX bank when I was living in Germany and Panama.

Not sure what countries some of them are from, for example no clue where the two left of Espana (Spain) is from at the bottom, or the ones with the palm trees and swords. I think Eire is ireland but not sure. The two oldest coins I have (that I know of so far) is that '37 Canadian penny and the 1940 Spanish coin which feels light as hell. I do remember growing up that I wanted to get my hands on some gold canadian dollars, they were always so elaborately crafted.

So yea thats one of my old hobbies re-discovered, aside from blowing shit up with "kid safe" chemistry sets, or gemstones.

I e-mailed the photo to a friend of mine who could talk to you about coins all day. Asked him if he saw any value at a glance, his reply...

Nothing you couldn't pick up in a dealers 25 cents each 5 for 1$ foreign bin. Also if you were wondering if some of these were struck on silver , they're all struck on inexpensive metals. The only possible variety I see is the 5 or 10 centimos from Spain "Espana" with the armored figure on the horse. On the reverse of this coin is a crowned shilled within an eagle which is flanked by two pillars on which two scrolls are hung. one has plus the second one has ultra, on the rarer variety plus is written using the Latin V to replace U , so it could be PLUS or PLVS.

ha sweet

I also collected a lot of stuff like that and had a safe I kept them all in. Stamps, old $2 silver certificates, 30+ silver eagles, a 1962 topps mickey mantle, indian pennies, old comics... Anything worth $$ I liked to collect.

I want to get my little brother into it now, when i visited him earlier this year I brought him a libertad:

I carry around two Kennedy half dollars in my wallet. One is (was) a silver proof. My kids busted the US Mint case it was in, so I figured "screw it" and put it in my wallet. The other is just a regular old half dollar, nothing special.

My rationale for carrying them...I'll never be broke. Always got a dollar on me. :D

I had a bunch of foreign coins sitting in a coin box from all over the world, including many countries that had converted to the euro. During a stopover in Belgium I tossed them all (sans British coins) into a donation bin to let them sort out the francs, deutschmarks, etc.

My mother's enameled silver dollar from 1895 on a silver chain is apparently worthless. Does an antique coin lose value when it's gussied up for jewelry?

Wow you even have a swiss coin in there..

if you need more I got a whole bag full of them.. Ballin' outta control with coins!

Yea thats what I figured, the kennedy half-dollar isn't pictured but its decent condition.

On the back of the Espana coin I didn't see anything like that in the wording, the elaborate crest is there yes, but at the top it looks like it says Una De Libra , and on the sides Deiz Cents.

Some of those are pretty much worthless. I have a full jar of "CCCP" collectible ones with different designs, my dad used to collect them back in CCCP times, they were worth a lot more back then than they are now... :(

Yea I got most of my large russian coins when living in germany, guys were selling em for like one or two dollars a piece :p (lol which was definitely a better deal for them at the time), I was just a kid not even in my teens yet, thinking 'oooh big coins'. I miss the good stuff, ... which my dad sold out from under me, like mostly old dollar coins, mercury dimes, etc.

I've got a couple coins as well... I'll take a pic tomorrow morning. I used to collect them but yeah it kinda bored be at one point. I've got 2 or 3 that date back to the 1850s.
