What a fuckin idea! Run a crackz site.. then scare visitors into buying software!

I'd love to know the conversion rate as well.

Very interesting idea. If you were able to provide them with more details such as their general location (based on ip), you might be able to scare even more.
You could probably get some college students (on an edu ip), by telling them that their university will be informed in 24 hours.

When I was a warez dude I got one of those dreaded "The SPA has contacted your ISP" emailed from pberuk@spa.org (]web search). I told them the photoshop link I posted was someone else's upload and all was forgotten. :thefinger:

I emailed another guy with the exact same subject, he was real scared until he read the message.

lol. this pretty underhanded, but hey, it is a damn crafty little idea!

But for people who have problem getting organic traffic from social bookmarking and search engines, it's a crap idea because no ppc company will let you advertise crack keygen patch warez sites even if they are just pretending to be one to get higher sales conversions.

I don't know how many would get their pants pissed because anyone visiting one of those sites know that what they are doing is illegal. They'd just find another one.

I think its a federal crime to misuse the Department of Justice's seal.

That site is breaking Google's Adsense TOS haha I've talked to Google about placing ads on torrent sites, warez sites, and even crack sites, none are allowed, your not even allowed to have Adsense on your site even if you don't host any of the files, if you just link to the files on another site, or link to a page on another site in which incorporates or somehow supports illegal activity in any way, shape or form its against there TOS and apparently you'll get banned.

But it just goes to show you how much Google actually takes the time to search out the bad sites.

The domain is registered to a company called Headlight Software.. the same guys that make GetRight.. Their forum seems to be all about file sharing, I doubt their users would appreciate the fake serial site shit.

Google allowed astalavista.box.sk in 1995:
Crack Cocaine! Google, Yahoo Chase the Dragon | Threadwatch.org

Apparently you have to sneak in under the radar, maybe make the site look like something else until you're approved by adsense?

I believe that may be classified as 'bait-and-switch' although offering something illegal and then NOT providing it MAY free them of that... :-)

I was going through some boxes last weekend and found a SPA letter that I received back in the late 90's. Scared me for 2 seconds until I read an article where the author was saying that this was classic extortion, and that they should be locked up for it, as they had no rights or actual intention of trying to 'raid' the thousands of people/companies they sent the letter to. They were shooting fish in a barrel...

Heh, it would be better converions if you asked them to do a cpa offer rather than buy something.

I second that.
These people are after all people who want everything free :D

But would it look legit if we made them go thro a cpa offer?

Black hat And May get you banned from your aff network:

Iframe the landing page of an offer that doesn't use a frame breaker. At the top say something like: enter your zip code to access your file.

i dont know if it isnt a crime just to pretend that you do something against him because he didnt do anything illegal yet... could be a form of blackmail...

The SPA gets away with it, saying they know you have illegal software and to contact them to arrange the licensing, and yet, they don't have a clue. Just shooting and hoping to hit something...

I am the author of P-Encrypt Secure Drive and sole proprietor of CadabraSoftware , and I have no idea how my software got on their site. I don't own the crack site, nor did I ask for the page to get put up ,but I'm glad it is :). I can tell you this much, unfortunately, the conversion rate is nil. The program has had very little sales since it release in March 2007.
