What do you guys think about gold?

tough call. it's trading so high right now you may not see a great return. It's probably safe as far as not losing money, but who plays not to lose? As for metals, I've got money on silver for now. I think the return will be greater.

investing into gold can definitely help you to diversify risks in your overall portfolio, but at the same time, its price can be linked to the very same factors, that influence the value of your other investments.

so, without knowing about your general investment strategy and your current portfolio, no advice can be a good advice.

one thing for sure, precious metals is one of the more complex markets that is not really suited for the casual investor, especially in these times.

high gold price, high stock market and too much cheap liquidity while experiencing a mortgage crisis at the same time is anything but a stable environment for any investment advice.

'As Good As Gold'

Gold is the only shit that has actual value. It's about safety, so if you've got a few million in cash in an economically unstable country its best to keep the money as gold, because when the economy fucks up, cash becomes paper, but gold is still gold. Gold always has value, national currency does not.

Gold is a great hedge, and I prefer gold payment systems as a matter of choice (which sadly have been a more or less total non-starter the last ten years) but as far as an investment goes -- forget it. The price has been so loopy the last two years and change that the real money made on gold has been in speculative swings, and that's nothing to do with the gold itself -- anything going through a tumultuous phase represents the same opportunity.

I'm real, real, real happy that I haven't made any major gold purchases since the stuff was about $250 an ounce, and haven't made any medium-sized purchases since $320. It's been mostly sales since then.

I would recommend investing in real estate in the Detroit area.

Now that would be ballin' out of control...
Errrr you might want to avoid that until the dearly beloved mayor we have now is gone...although really...I cannot imagine that being a good idea. There's no jobs, shitty weather, and really just nothing good going on there lately. And btw, I live right by there, so I know what I'm talking about.

I am down!
lmfao did anyone else notice all of them are sold "as is", generally have plywood over the windows, and frequently mention something about the buyer being responsible for bringing them up to all city codes?

On the upside, if you find a proper crack stash in the floorboards(which appears likely) you could probably get enough $$$ to fix the house up without investing any previously-had in it!
