What company do you use for home insurance? All state gave me a quote for home + auto and the auto insurance is 3x more than what I pay now @ Geico. So I'm not going to be going with them.

Are you happy with the company you're with?

For home insurance I use First American Property Insurance

I didn't shop around much as the premium is less than $50 a month which includes personal items like jewelry, watches, etc. Home insurance isn't really a big expense.

I also have Geico for car insurance and have been with them for almost 10 yrs and nobody has even come close to beating their rates.

I'd keep your Geico and look around for home insurance separately.

State Farm- I have multiple policies with them (home/umbrella/autos/etc).

Have never filed a claim but am happy with the price and company reputation. They're never the cheapest - but that's not what I go for in insurance anyway.

Here is my recent personal experience:
2 weeks ago I decided I needed to have a look at my roof. I knew I had lost a few shingles in the last storm but now the small leak in my ceiling was telling me there was possible further damage.

I called a roofer for a quote and he advised me that this was more than just a patch job so at 2pm I called in a claim to Nationwide Insurance. The adjuster was at my house around 5pm the same day and by 6:30pm she printed a check from her car and handed it to me for a full replacement of the entire roof on my house!

The speediness of the claim process and the no-nonsense way they dealt with this was totally unexpected.

The story gets better:
My local agent called me a few days later to check up on me. She wanted to make sure my adjuster had contacted me for an appointment. I told her I already had a new roof on my house and everything was great. She advised me she had even more good news for me - Now that my 30-year roof was brand spanking new, they were lowing my premium rates.

My next door neighbor has a very similar experience with them as well.

Nationwide Homeowners Insurance is killer.

I did one of the offers for the lowest car insurance rate, and State Farm was over $200 cheaper than anybody's quote. They offer 10% off when you bundle it with homeowners insurance, so my experience has been different.

I'm going to rerun the car insurance check before renewal time comes up to see how much I can save this year. Some affiliate offers are really useful.

I have Travelers.. got the quote through Geico and it was at least $300 less than everywhere else.
Other than that I have only had my house for about 9 months now and have never had any reason to talk to them.

American Family for everything. Best deal I could find...I'm not sure if they are just regional or national in the US.

I just got an auto, renter's, and umbrella policy from GEICO yesterday. It was the least expensive option by far, with other insurers quoting me 30-70% more for less coverage. Time will tell how well they respond to claims, but hopefully I won't have to test that.

State Farm for home, life (really it's Phoenix, but through State Farm), my wife's Roth IRA and 3 cars.

Allstate here, mostly for the convenience of having the agent in my Manhattan neighborhood. I don't carry car insurance, so I've no idea if it's a good deal as a package.

Never had to use the condo insurance though. We did have an incident in which one of our hired hands fell off of a penthouse roof doing something he was expressly told not to do. He broke many important bones and sued 9 of us for a total of $50,000,000. Ultimately he lost the case, but when the suit was filed our lawyer asked us to send proactive letters to our insurance agents. My agent let me know I was covered, whatever the outcome of the lawsuit.
