6-7 years ago cookies were 9999 days, terms were often very good. That has changed over the last few years, more real estate less quality? Either way, what realistic terms would cause site owners and developers to sign up to new programmes?

A lot of people prefer lifetime earnings from their efforts. So you refer one customers and you keep that customer for the life of it.

Lifetime earnings

When I set up Touch Local on Commission Junction the standard cookie was set at 45 days, but I used 90 because I though it more reasonable. But unlimited cookies! I don't know. I can understand an affiliates view, but what value does it give a merchant?

I just hate the cookie only tracking anyway, too many cookie cleaners out there. It really depends on the site, but in general I don't see a reason why an affiliate shouldn't be credited for all sales from the account of a customer he referred.

Sure, can be alot, but would the merchant make any money from the customer without me sending the guy there ? No, not a single buck.

Realistic ? No, but I expect more effort to track a sale than just a cookie only. I care less if it lasts 45 days or 90 days or whatever, but cookie only sales tracking is certainly not the state of art. There are more ways and they aren't rocket science.
