What to use for an educational website?

Hello,
I wanted to go about creating an educational website for a college and wanted to know what is the best cms to use for the same. Basically students should be able to get information from the site about their examination and test results(so a database is in order)

Was thinking of implementing joomla, but I wanted to know what can I do with it in respect to an educational website. (can users register their names, mailing list to those registered, DBMS etc...)

If not joomla, are there any other recommendations that you would suggest??

Moodle.org: open-source community-based tools for learning

if you just want to create a test management site with users, moodle may be overkill ...
if you want to provide a full school solution (online classes, calendar, etc), then go for it

I'd go with Joomla- Joomlashack.com has an excellent free "Shack Pack" built special for a school app- check it out, it may be just what you need. There's an upsell for a full tutorial on the pack, but if you're familiar with J at all you can skip that
