I just saw Kotex couldn't use their tampon ads because they said the word "vagina". Pussies. Is there a specific list of words that TV networks agree can't be said in television commercials? Can't seem to find anything.

Late night comedy central you here it all... does that mean you can do that as well in commercials? Buy some fucking silly puddy! haha

I used to write TV ads in the UK. The regulations, at least here, are incredibly long and detailed. There's a huge amount of things you can't say, and all ads have to be cleared twice, once in pre-production and once after production. When we would shoot an ad, we would shoot 5-6 different scripts, ranging from incredibly weak and safe to ever-so-slightly risky.

I once submitted a script to be cleared that said something like "Everyone has unwanted jewellery lying around the house" or similar. It came back with "No. They. Don't." written in the notes.

They are really tough, and everything takes forever to go though. The agency would bribe them with cases of champagne every year as "christmas gifts" in order to get scripts through quicker.

Here in Australia, the use of slang or "offensive language" can be an effective marketing tool. Check out this ad from Tourism Australia (from a couple of years ago).

It will be worth watching 'til the end just to see Lara Bingle's tits (do a Google image search for her if you can't be fucked watching the vid).
