My friend has been sitting on a premium domain, entertainmentdeals.com, and is trying to decide if he wants to sell it or do something with it. He's not an internet marketer at all, so he asked me if I wanted to partner up with him and help him build a site and market it.

I have some ideas, but I wanted to see what more successful internet marketers would do with it if they owned it. Maybe you could come up with some things that I hadn't thought of.

Thanks!

Is entertainmentdeals.com the actual domain? If it is and he can get some money for it he should sell it imo. It just doesn't seem worth much to me.

Yes, entertainmentdeals.com is the domain name. I thought it would be worth more, but I ran it through a domain appraisal site and it said it was worth about $800. He was originally wanting to build some kind of site where users could search for entertainment coupons for restaurants, night clubs, and events in major cities, but that just seems like a lot of work and would require a pretty major investment.

Domain appraisal sites' valuations mean jack shit!

The domain is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.

The domain has some age rank (7 years), but other than that, no SEO value. Only 110 global monthly searches (exact) using GKWT. No developed site.

If the owner wants to increase it's value, then he needs to create a brand and add value for the user. If he can't be bothered, then sell it.

Research competition that offers "entertainment deals". Contact them, offer them the domain. This route is the only way you'll get a good sell on the domain. Otherwise some domainer will take it off your hands for $50.

Thanks for the replies. I came to you guys because I can count on you all to tell it like it is. I really appreciate it.

4 searches a day isn't exactly premium

If he has anyone who thinks it actually is premium he probably should sell it

1) adopt groupon business model
2) adopt retailmenot.com buisness model
3) Make a mash-up
4) ....
5) When you hit 700 posts, SELL!!

Think outside the box

EntertainmentDeals.com

The center of the universe for entertainment is L.A./Hollywood/SoCal and there are probably thousands of agents and agencies of all types that are in the Entertainment industry.... ALL of them with one objective...

Making Entertainment Deals!

You may be able to find a reputable domain broker in the L.A. area that is familiar with the entertainment industry. This way you market the potential of the name to a targeted audience vs. worrying about creating a site that only few may be attracted to.

Best case scenario is that more than one agent or agency is interested creating a nice bidding war. Not probably but possible.
