I want to get a cash back rewards credit card. Can anyone recommend a good one that's not discover or american express?

why not amex? they have a great card that gets 5% back on gas, among other things and 1% back on almost everything else. That's definitely a good card to have. No annual fee too!

i always heard that no one takes amex, maybe im wrong. Ive been spending alot on ads lately, i feel like i should get a rewards card or something. 5% on gas is pretty good.

The best ive found is a Citi® Dividend® Platinum Select® MasterCard® that is 1% cash back on all purchases and 5% on food, gas.

Oh, and check your paypal mike, i just sent all my money ;)

Amex is pretty good for business in general. No artificial limits to mess you up when you are traveling, renting cars, booking hotel rooms.

All PPC companies take it. All real advertising companies have to because it is the business card.

Plus the customer service rocks if you need to dispute something. Might happen with online companies sometimes.... I disputed the Yahoo $299 when they axed the directory program years ago. Got my money back.

I also deal in credit card processing. The reason quite a few places do not accept amex or discover, is the processing fees are so high. Amex and Discover do their own processing, so they have everybody by the balls that accepts it. Visa and Mastercard are preferred by most places because of this. Same reason why you see a sign in your local quickie mart that says "Mus have $20 or more to use credit card", because they get killed on fees.

I just signed up for the Amex Blue card after doing a little research. Haven't received it yet.

If you're getting the card for your business I'm not sure how relevant extra cash back on gas and food is. I spend $0 on those items from my business' perspective.

The absolute best program period is CASH!

Dump the plastic!

This is the dumbest thing I've read in a while. If you know how to manage credit, why wouldn't you take 5% off every purchase you make?

American Express for most all business things. Yea local stores don't take it, but google, yahoo, microsoft, and all other big businesses do.

Capitol One/Citibank cards are pretty good too, usually have decent cashback amounts to use around town.

I got Amex and a backup Via for places who don't accept Amex, but it's really mostly small local stores that don't accept it.

Bull-Shit, Call me old fashioned but, Ill use cash. When I actually feel the money leaving my hand I spend it a lot smarter. If a credit card is a must , I'll use my debit card. Plus it's pretty fucking creepy to know that big corporations know my spending habits. I prefer to have my profile as small as possible.

5% savings ( with a lot of ifs) vs No footprints, privacy and smarter spending habits? I'll take the latter.

So with all due respect, YOUR post is the dumbest thing I've read in a while.

Why is it dumb, just because it's what you prefer not to do? For those that can handle credit cards wisely, there are great perks and paybacks for using them. I use Amazon.com Visa which paid me $30 in Amazon bucks upfront, and I have received additional hundreds to spend at the site. I also have a Frontier Airlines Mastercard, and on my way to getting free airline tickets. The secret is to pay the whole balance every month, thereby getting free loans on your purchases.

If you can't control your spending, avoid credit cards. If you think that not having a credit card means you're anonymous, you're kidding yourself. You leave your information all over the place all the time.

Why is my preference to use cash dumb? (that's what I was responding to) I never said using a credit card was dumb, I just like the advantages of cash. I realize being anonymous is impossible, however, I would would like to limit how much my info gets out there. Using cash does this. With identity fraud and info leaks, I do try to keep my life as anonymous as possible, pts and miles will never change my mind.

Maybe so, but i'm sure it really depends how much you're spending. Funneling business costs through a credit card can be very beneficial. Good programs will give you about 1% cash value for the money you spend on the card. It's easy to turn that down if you're not spending much, but what if you were spending 5K or 10K per day. Then you might change your mind.

My american express OPEN business card gives me 5% back on gas, wireless services, and office supplies and 1% back on everything else. Not bad, eh?
