Hey every1

I'm setting up a horse betting/football betting affiliate site. And i was wondering which of the following 2 approaches is the better way to get it done.

Option 1:
- Get site visitor to sign up to mailing list
- Email sent to visitor immediately after signing up, with links to the betting tips which are found on a private section of the website itself (with affiliate links)

Option 2:
- Get site visitor to sign up to mailing list
- Email sent to the visitor immediately after signing up, with a downloak link of a 5 page free betting report (free eBook..call it what u like..a pdf document) with affiliate links in it.

Has anybody got any experiences with trying out these 2 different methods on the same site? Is there any difference is the conversion rate?

Cheers,
Matt ;)

@ sircheezmo
ye forgot to mention this is site is targeting european traffic not US....

@larrybn
what's the point of doing both?

Anybody have any better suggestions? thanks..

As a former gambler, neither of these approaches will work, you may get a few people that will check your site out as a matter of interest and maybe signup to one of your affiliate offers and use it at a later date.

But if you want to get the people that gamble on a daily basis then you need to be able to give them instant access to gambling, they may or may not sign up to your newsletter but if they are anything like me then they not interested in a newsletter with tips etc. Gamblers already know the in's and out's of gambling so no need to read more on it.

Truth be told if it was me, I'd be doing a google search on football betting, then clicking a site that is in the first page of results that had a description to what I was looking for, If I could tell you how to tap into the gambling market then I would have already done it myself so sorry that I can not be of anymore help.

Are you fucking serious?

Well the thing is that the guide/tips (call them what u like) are just a one time thing.

It's not some newsletter or some kinda blog which is updated frequently..

So why would I would want to send the same guide/tips (5 pages worth of content) both as a downloadable pdf and also as a link with the content hosted on a private section on the site..

Hope I explained it well enough...

Would like to hear more thoughts about this JamesH... thanks =)

what's the point of doing both?

There is absolutely no point whatsoever to doing both. Especially don't do it to test out the one that converts better - that would be fucking retarded. Just pick one at random and stick with it even if it makes you no money.

Do you mean I should run option 1 first for say a month then implement option 2 for another month and compare conversion rates?
Or are u just taking the piss out of me ? :(

See, common sense can be a good thing.

Try setting up multiple sites to test shit out. Try out different pitches on your signup page, etc.

hehe... ok thanks for the suggestion.. but the thing is that this is not a PPC campaign..

it's seo based... And setting up another site with the same goal and trying to get it ranked for the same keywords is too time consuming.

I think I'll go with changing the pitch and method after a period of 1 month... and seeing which converts better..

Anyways thanks to all for ur suggestions etc.

You should try both, and if one fails then the other might work. If both work, then double the money. If none work, you'll know what not to do on your next try. How is it a one time thing?
