I would do 800x600 cause your landing page will look horrible on the 8% with small resolutions. You don't want to have to have them scroll for your call to action or anything.

those 8$ can fuck each other.. I'm better off with the higher resolution

if you have google analytics on your site you can see what resolution the majority of people have and adjust accordingly. But 1024 x 768 will likely win about with 30-50 percent. 1280x800 is likely next, then 1280x1024, then maybe 1440x900

and then 800x600 will probably be near 5 percent.

Thats what i notice on most of my sites, and i have diff niches and targets, but it's always something close to that...

I think 800X600 lps just looks better.

If you plan on flexible lp, so make sure you do "maxwidth" on css, cause it's terrible to read something on 22" wide screen.

Thats my opinion.

780px always works for me!

If you have a header and footer set with 100% width and a different container DIV set to 780px, it looks great in almost all resolutions!

No part of the browser looks empty for greater resolution guys, nor does your 800x600 guy have to scroll horizontally to go through your page!

It really depends on your target audience. If your targets are tech-savvy or wealthy, then shooting for 1024x768 (950px-974px wide) is fine. If you are likely to reach for lower income, or older people, then 800x600 is still common and you should limit yourself to 750px wide.

If you familar witht the YUI Grid system, there is an excellent example of using it to make a liquid layout for both 800x600 and higher resolutions.
