When buy a $X,XXX domain, how do you check if it's under a Google penalty?

I'm really interested in buying this premium domain that is kind of expensive but I already know I can profit from it within a couple months... the only thing is, how do I know it's not under some penalty from previous owners? On domaintools it says it had 6 different owners in the last 2 years. Isn't that suspicious?

What do you guys check before spending big dough on a domain?

Check the Alexa ranking. Also ask the seller to show you traffic logs.

look at what keywords it had been ranking for or is still ranking for in SEMrush or some other tool that has that data...

Also I always search for keyword site.com - if it's not the first result or on the first page, something may be funky.
