Which one of yous ownes this? v. Canadian HST

^ lol, its hard coded in the html. at least they could have a +1 script

Too bad the Ontario government doesn't care about public opinion when it comes to their revenue streams. 1 million people could sign it and it would still be ignored.

The idea of HST is good, but the implementation sucks. They should have come in with a lowered HST rate to make it revenue neutral. As it is, this is going to cost a lot of people a lot of money.

I'm sick and tired of McGuinty and want him out. I typically vote Liberal, but he's done so many messed up things over his past 2 mandates that I'd rather waste my vote and vote NDP before I vote for him again. But I doubt it'll make a difference - he's got no real competition so he's likely to find himself with another majority next election.

Steve, im surprised you're not a PC guy.

And while the idea of HST makes some sense (my understanding is that it will allow them to allocate different percentages of the tax to federal & provincial government) its bad because now everything has to be taxed at that rate, as oppose to allowing certain items to only have one tax applied (i.e. children's clothes)

My choice of Liberal comes from the social policies, not so much the financial ones. Not that I think there's much difference in the financial policies of either liberal or conservative parties here in Canada.

The HST sucks because it is a blatant tax grab being sold as a way for the province to be competitive. I agree it will help some businesses become more competitive globally, but I believe two things come into play that will negative this improved competitiveness. First, I think the high value of the Canadian dollar is doing significantly more damage to our businesses who trade globally, and second, local consumers are going to have a lot less money to spend now that all services and utilities are going to be hit with a provincial sales tax.

The children's clothes thing is nothing more than a "we understand your pain" BS deflection. Children's clothes weren't taxed before, so a young lower income family with children aren't going to see any difference there. But they will everytime they fill their gas tank, pay their hydro/natural gas bills, etc.

I love how HST doesn't apply to convenience food (fast food, tim hortons, etc...), but does apply to gym memberships. The fat get fatter. Damn I hate fat girls.
