Oh shit, i just heard it's the fucking North Koreans... not the Chinese as originally intended. They fucking changed it so we wouldn't hurt our main creditors feelings I guess. Wow, what an epic fail.

'Merica fuck uhhhh

Might be good anyway.. I'll try to like it.

So they invented a EMP weapon that permanently takes out electronics for this one... I guess that's a nice plot device.

Looks fun, but I gotta wonder if this is a smart move on the part of the establishment to let this kind of film out... Like Hunger Games this kind of stuff isn't simple 1-way propaganda for them. This one in particular puts ppl in the mindset of building militias and fighting off an insurmountable foe. Kinda like giving the sheeple an instruction manual for rebellion.

Luckily for their sake it's going to be so filled with propaganda that it will have the opposite effect to most.

This is nothing more than a remake from the 80's. The last version was against the Russians right at the tail end of the cold war.

Made the mistake of watching the original a couple months ago, really wish I hadn't. When I was ten, that was the coolest shit ever. Now, not so much...

Oh I used to be one of those kids that would scream "Wolverines!" when I led my paintball team over to the enemy base... That Swayze movie had a very good effect on me that I had worried is missing in these younger generations. I'm glad that this movie is back.

How is that different from a real EMP?
Hmm, Good point. :ticking:

You weren't the only one. Just cant seem to remember if it was before or after we would play "Running Man". Which involved riding around the neighborhood after dark on our bikes, while hunting down the kids on foot.

That shit was filmed in Detroit, but that was like 3-4 years ago. Fucking took forever to get it released so it must suck.

Fun fact, a few of the blown up buildings and ruins were actual buildings that did not have to be altered at all to make it look like a war zone.

It would be a lot more realistic if most the population immediately began justifying the North Koreans right to occupy them and explaining how it simply wouldn't be practical or even in our interest to overthrow them.

Propaganda is alive and well!

When you defend America against invaders you're a hero. When you defend your homeland against American invaders you're a terrorist.

Goooooooo AMERICA!!!!!

Except that is exactly how a weaponized emp works. You've seen too many movies if you think devices just come back on after a bit.

Depends on the size & altitude of the nuclear explosion. It also depends on the device, some will come back on , some will not.

The biggest threat is to transformers. All long-distance powerlines work as giant antennas that readily take the EMP "Signal" which overloads the transformers. Transformers are easy to make, but not so easy that you can replace millions quickly. During a bad power storm, it's not too hard to destroy a few dozen, each taking a hour or two to replace. A nationwide EMP strike (Or solar flare) would result in the replacement of tens of millions of them. How do you make a transformer when you can't get production started at a factory?

There has been quite a bit of study on the subject, and if North America was to have a solar flare, or a very localized EMP attack that allowed Europe & Asia to survive without issue, it would take 3 to 5 years to restore the grid. If Europe & Asia did not survive, 10 to 15 years to restore the grid.

The death tolls from a North American EMP strike are estimated at 100 to 175 million deaths due to starvation and lack of access to clean water.
