FTA:

While the companies and FDA fight it out, they continue to sell these products stateside, and new companies continue to open up. As new competitors enter the space, and the price goes down to levels less expensive than traditional tobaccos products, these products look like they will greatly increase in popularity during 2011.
First, electronic cigarettes have the advantage of accessibility. You can smoke almost anywhere. In a nod to the “golden era” of smoking, retailers are taking advantage of marketing this fact. Lots of literature and information touts the fact that you can enjoy your electronic cigarette in your favorite bar, on an airplane, in a doctors office etc.

Second, they have a large variety. While Obama in 2009 signed into law a bill that made it illegal for tobacco purveyors to offer flavored varieties, electronic cigarettes aren’t confined to these restrictions. This means you can drag on a cherry flavored cigarette, or a chocolate flavored cigarette. These flavors are only more compounded by the variety of nicotine levels. Instead of like traditional cigarettes you must moderate your own intake, you can buy different densities of nicotine solutions. So while electronic cigarettes aren’t approved for smoking cessation (quitting smoking), they do offer you the opportunity to taper off your nicotine usage.

Third, because they are a chemical derivative, not a plant derivative, they offer significantly cheaper options for distribution. There are no plants that suffer from bugs, droughts, or soil quality. They don’t need to be dried, processed or shipped. Instead these chemicals can by synthesized in almost any first world laboratory, and distributed. Additionally, these products aren’t taxed by the government and companies can save quite a bit of money there.

Fourth, the electronic cigarette is an item that requires consumables. Just like your printer needs ink, these e cigarettes require either nicotine solution to refill the cartridge, or as most people are using now a days, pre-filled cartridges. This gives companies the opportunity to create a “Loss leader” and give away starter kits for free or very inexpensively knowing that they’ll be selling the cartridges. This will make getting into electronic cigarettes very easy for the average smoker.

My volume on e-cigs has almost doubled this month. I'm sure as hell hoping it stays that way.

New York May Be First State To Ban E-Cigs

Katherine Heigl and David Letterman "light up" an e-cig on air

With rising prices of cigarettes—and, you know, the health risks that come with puffing them down—some of the city's smokers have turned to e-cigarettes... but those may be banned before the real thing! CBS NY reports that New York could become the first state to ban electronic cigarettes. Assemblywoman Linda Rosenthal of Manhattan says e-cigarettes need to be studied first, and currently carry no warning labels. She's concerned about the nicotine in the vapor-emitting e-cigs, and also that "most are made in China and other countries where the safety of products isn’t well regulated."

However, Hollywood actress Katherine Heigl says that e-cigarettes are perfectly fine! She even smoked one during a Letterman appearance last year (and got the host to take a few puffs as well). She explained, "You blow out water vapor so you're not harming anyone around you and you're not harming yourself. I'm essentially humidifying the space."

A discussion on New York State Assembly's bill, A01468, that would outlaw all sales of electronic cigarettes is scheduled for tomorrow. The Consumer Advocates for Smoke-free Alternatives Association (CASAA) supports a ban on sales to minors, but says “Banning e-cigarette sales to adults also would deny smokers in New York the opportunity to switch to a safer alternative."

These kinds of articles are awesome for helping people learn about E cigarettes. It'd be a pretty stupid move to ban E cigs before real cigs, and a highly transparent one as well. NY State doesn't get the money, they don't allow the product. LAME.

So, The number of comment spams with the Electronic Cigarettes related keyword is also going to increase.

That's the major problem with them. The government wants their cut considering it cuts into the ridiculous amount of money they make from the taxes. I know here in PA, there's almost a $2.50 state tax on each pack of cigs.

im pretty sure phillip & morris are one of the many companies that run the government.. won't be hard to get these things illegal.. just like cloves..

Cloves, Cigarettes named "lights", and FourLoko.... and you don't think E-cigarettes will be banned? Not to mention, I am sure as shit Phillip Morris and company are fighting to get this shit snubbed out as well. Needless to say, there is likely lots of money in it.

Hey, don't out his site, brah!

;)

I agree that big tobacco must be doing whatever they can to silence this... But that didn't stop me from walking past not one but TWO e-cig vendors today at the local mall.

Shit's out. It'll literally take a big ass act of congress to get shit back in the bottle now.

These days every one is concentrating on their health , I see alot of people quiting smoking in order to improve their health. This is the reason where alot of anti-cigarettes remits come into picture this year.

They are a better alternative, but at the end of the day all they're really doing is continuing to feed the addict that next hit. When people are serious about quitting and they go ahead and do it they will always have the knowledge inside that they managed to beat that addiction that has been haunting them since the day they took that first drag.

Other than still being addicted, they still have to continue to shell out for the habit with the ecig/cartridges and it is important to remember that it hasn't been proven that they are safe and because they are new that would even take a lifetime. I am sure I read somewhere that a variety were tested and they contained some of the same cancer causing chemicals (obv in smaller dosage).

You're probably right that 2011 will be a big year for them. Would no doubt help if more celebs like DiCaprio are seen using them. I have no idea how you could promote them though with not being able to advertise on Facebook/Google and hasn't the SEO boat been missed as well?! (plenty of keyword domains around already).:)
