As the House passed the health care plan proposed by the President and Congressional Democrats, just 41% of voters supported the plan. The final numbers for Congress before passing the health care proposal showed that just 11% believe the legislature is doing a good or an excellent job. Sixty-four percent (64%) say Congress is doing a poor job.

Representative democracy has to the least representative thing ever. The "representatives" always know that they're right.

* title is a rhetorical question.

Well... im not sure that I understand the full complexity of the subject here but it seems to me that most governments are managed by politicians who in turn are "employed" by corporations, with the money from those corporations they can then gather votes and push sponsor corporation's agenda.

I think that if you have no support from corporation it will be very hard for someone to make a carreer as a sucessful politician...

So in this case, why would some corporations want a health care plan ? Well if you were a medical corporation if you know that the government will be paying for all medical bills of the people, that would be the best opportunity for you to increase your prices...

Everyone knows that the best client you can have is the government ( especially the military ), because they have loads of money and they dont really care how they spend it... Politicians arent spending their money, they are spending your money...

When you spend your own money, you watch what you spend and you try to minimize costs. Governments dont really care, about that, they can have unlimited debt, print money, increase taxes whatever... if they want money, they got it.

The only voice in america that should count are hard working tax payers. Welfare cases, illegal immigrants, drug dealers, special intrest ect, dont matter and shouldnt be heard.

Infact i belive that if your on welfare you shouldnt be allowed to vote. If you cant come up with a decent income to support yourself you have no place in voting for laws that affect every american. I didnt get to be supported by my parents and call the shots.

That said most liberals think its 50% of americans were for this, when its 60% and higher who were against this bill. They show a bunch of illegal immigrants and welfare cases and say that america is for it. Then they attack the tea parties, saying they are rednecks, if that is true or not they pay taxes, work jobs, and support these lazy fucks.

They think it's their job because we haven't threatened their salary or criminally charged them yet. As soon as that becomes a reality perhaps then they will have second thoughts about ignoring the American people. Bastards.

...just 41% of voters supported the plan.

This is the shit that makes me laugh everytime I see it. Here's another rhetorical question for ya: How many of those people have actually read and studied the bill and therefore have any clue what the fuck their opinion is actually based on?

I'm not saying I support the bill, or even the concept of universal health care - I just think it's hilarious when I see poll numbers from "average Americans" who 9/10 times don't have any clue what they're talking about.

How many times when you see poll numbers do you actually look at the actual questions asked, and the way they are asked and the demographics of the people asked and the timing of the questions asked, and the order of the questions asked and the....on and on. Poll numbers mean absolutely nothing because they are too easily manipulated.

Besides, we don't live in a democracy, we live in a representative republic. Our so-called esteemed forefathers didn't want commoners voting directly on issues because they knew most people are retarded and "know not what they speak of". They also didn't want women or minorities voting either. Regardless of how you think you feel about the issues (shaped no doubt, by the media you choose to consume), have you actually read the bill? Or any bills for that matter?

What's so new about this? Congress does things all the time that American people don't approve of. Remember the bailouts?

Regardless of my feelings about any given bill I definitely think congress should NOT be attempting to listen to polls. Most people are retards that don't do enough research to make informed decisions and are easily swayed my simple talking points. The people that founded this country were brilliant enough to realize that fact and thus made us a Representative Democracy.

You have no clue what you're talking about.

1) It doesn't matter if people have no clue what's in a bill. If they don't support it, it shouldn't be passed. That's how a democracy works. You sound like an ignorant politician whining... The burden lies on the idiots who created a complicated 2400 page bill, not the people.

Only a fool argues with the market.

2) The polls regarding health care were not worded in any kind of manipulative way and if you think they were, you're delusional. In fact, many of the polls that reflected how opposed people were to this bill were CNN polls which is factually a more liberal organization.

Moreover, to say polls mean nothing is more ignorance. Obviously, it depends on what poll were talking about... however, some polls, like Rasmussen for example, have been extremely accurate over the past 10 years.

Nearly a quarter of the people opposed say it was because it was "not liberal enough"

74 percent of the public considers Medicaid a "very important" government program, behind only Social Security (88 percent) and Medicare (83 percent)

Poll: 74% oppose state Medicaid cuts

57 percent of all Americans now favor a public insurance option, while 40 percent oppose it.

If a public plan were run by the states and available only to those who lack affordable private options, support for it jumps to 76 percent. Under those circumstances, even a majority of Republicans, 56 percent, would be in favor of it, about double their level of support without such a limitation.

Fifty-six percent of those polled back a provision mandating that all Americans buy insurance, either through their employers or on their own or through Medicare or Medicaid. That number rises to 71 percent if the government were to provide subsidies for many lower-income Americans to help them buy coverage. With those qualifiers, a majority of Republicans say they support the mandate.

Most support public option for health insurance, poll finds - washingtonpost.com

agreed. Do you really think the masses that are out there buying berriez and teeth whitening should be calling the shots? People are stupid.

You do realize that this country was not set-up as a democracy right? We were founded as a representative republic which means the people are not entitled to vote on bills, issues etc, because our founding fathers had no confidence in the intelligence of the average citizen. So tell me again how democracy works...

I'm saying the general public is not equipped to make these decisions, that is why we elect those to represent us.

I don't know enough about law or public health to craft a healthcare bill and I'm pretty sure you don't either. Which is why we elect those that know the law and appoint those who know about public health.

Do you seriously believe you're better than them and entitled to make decisions on their behalf?

^^^ This.

I think most people forget this. We are not a true democracy, but a representative republic. Which is why it is not us that votes for the president directly, but the electoral college.

- In some states the electoral college reps are required to vote in proportion to the popular vote
- In some states all the votes goes to the person with the majority of the popular votes (ignoring the will of some of the populace)
- In some others the reps can vote however they want completely ignoring the popular vote (they don't do this, but they can if they want).

While we might vote in representatives to vote on this shit, the bottom line is they are supposed to vote the will of the people, not vote so that they can be on their side of the party lines.

I think it's clear by now that there hasn't been a bill in a very long time that took this much arm twisting, lying, cheating, and bribery to get passed.

For one group of retards Obama even had to sign an executive order which doesn't carry an ounce of fucking weight legally, and somehow they treat us like we are fucking stupid?
