I have gotten in to a few SEO tools, and from what I can see all I need to run them is proxies. I don't understand why you need to have proxies AND a VPS like most tools suggest. What is the benefit of the VPS?
the idea is you leave your tools running on a "dedicated" machine with a better net connection, also your ISP may not like you ruining their IP addresses by posting to 1000 forums a minute
What AdamC said....so it doesn't clog up your computer and so they function faster with a more nimble operating system like in a Virtual Machine environment...
Not related to running tools specifically, but when your sites start growing in terms of content and traffic, you'll discover shared hosting is not enough and you need to upgrade to either a VPS or DEDI if shit gets really serious.
If you're dead set on using your personal machine to begin with I suggest running your programs in a VM and use a VPN with no logging to do your bidding.
Would rather use a personal computer, not like you can't run multiple versions and run everything through proxies anyways through that. I've used both VPS and personal PC and just switched all to private PC. I can see a VPS being convenient if you're moving around a lot.
OP, if you do run all the tools with your own IP, then some of the tools do mass scraping such as Scrapebox, GSA Ser. So, that your ip will get banned by Google in matter of time for up to 24 hours. That is why people use proxies.
As for VPS, it is best way to reduce your electricity costs and it runs at 24/7. Also you don't have have to worry about CPU usage resources.
Proxies - because you don't want to have problems with your ISP when spamming.
VPS - because you don't want to keep your computer up 24/7 with a lot of seo tools running.
Because some tools are working by using blackhat methods!
So, if they use the same ISP again & again, then that ISP or the IP should be blocked by search engines.
So for Safety - VPS is needed!
only have 4GB RAM, i7 desktop computer. Do you think it will run scrapebox x 10 at the same time? Talking about some more tools which uses high resources, like Java tools and a few
only have 150 Mbps Net Connection. Do you think it can support 24/7 scrapebox harvesting round the clock? Yes it will but it will stop you from doing everything else.
VPS is meant to be an extra computer in your arsenal for projects and targets that needs time to give results while running round the clock.

Shared hosting plan is where there are many other users sharing the same server as your business, a VPS will ensure that your company remains independent of other users. This is important because websites that share a plan can be affected by one another, and this can cause a lot of problems. If a website sharing the same server as your business is receiving high levels of traffic, it can slow all of the sites on the server. By using a VPS, the functioning of your website will never be determined by other sites. Currently I have upgraded my plan from shared hosting to VPS from fresh roasted hosting its working pretty good and I am satisfied with the service.
