So this is a lame thread, but I thought I'd ask you guys for any input.

I don't do the affiliate marketing thing. Never was really good at it.

I know mommy blogs get ditched like newborns in trailer parks, but my wife has this idea that I'm supporting her with.

So, any mommy blog enthusiasts out there with any tips for starters?

Yo can I get a guest post?

Tips:

- Get out there and get in the commenting circle jerk. That's where the magic happens and the links are obtained. All those 10 zillion blogroll links flying around? From making connections and having fun.

- Get some reputation together within the community and start giving out awards. Create an image icon like "Your Wife's Blog presents... Best Blog of April 2014". Give those out and people will showcase them with image links back to your site.

- Do things like "15 days of Christmas Cooking! a new recipe every day! Cook along with us and post your results on your site!" and you'll get links back. Scrapbooking, Crafts, Baby Raising, entertaining kids, whatever your niche is, you can pull this off.

- Look at all the other zillion mommy blogs and design your site like that to blend in for a few years and get tons of links by being a part of the community. Later you can reposition yourself as an authority and redesign and what not. But blending in and getting those links will be important at first I think, versus doing only SEO campaigns. Actually be involved.

- I suspect they are all over social media too, which is just another way to fluff their ego's and get links. Be all up in dat like a cone in jeffrey.

Thems is my thoughts for now. Good luck to your wife!

I'll take a guest blog - relevant niche to mine.

Have her create different content types. Mommies love coupons... do a coupon sub directory. Social and interaction are everything in this niche.

With every female niche I've exploited, Pinterest has been a big part of it. Bitches love pinning things.

If I were a mom and was going to start a blog from scratch, I would start with video right off the bat. Sure, it sounds intimidating, but it really isn't once you (she) gets used to it.

Overhead isn't that high anymore, doesn't take long to figure how to make "pretty close to professional" video (it may even be in her best interest to make it seem like she isn't a "pro") and that really is where the future is going. (In my opinion)

For ideas, check out shiz like...

The Mom's View - YouTube
The Love Nest - YouTube

And more like that...

Just some thoughts, not sure if they will help at all or not.

Plus, what everyone else said too - Pintrest, commenting, becoming part of the "community", etc...

Pinterest. If she has a good graphic to go along with her posts that has some text on it explaining what the post is, that is very important.

Check out this link for some ideas on what some good graphics look like for pins:

Combine niches to create a persona for maximum effect.

"TripletsTriathlete"
"ThirdCulturePaleo"
"KnitandFit"
"HardcoreGreenLiving"

If you don't mind your wife taking pictures of the kids, she could utilize Instagram. Apparently it's the "new" place for mom's to show off their children's fashion statements.

Read this in some popular magazine. I just can't remember which one.

Good luck.

boatBurner, I don't want to be the cynical one in this parade, but you have thought of possible consequences to having your wife in on a project like this? In all seriousness....

I've had several clients that tried to bring their wife to me for a "quick" little site for fashion, t-shirts, shoes, other girly niches. Take this with a grain of salt, but here's what you might have to deal with:

-It'll never be finished, simply because websites don't "finish"
-even if you put the framework together, she's still going to constantly need you for the smallest adjustments
-a new theme comes out and she has to have it
-you're an asshole for monetizing
-you're an asshole for not monetizing
-"I wanna be on Facebook"
-"I wanna be on Youtube"
-"Why am I not on Twitter?"
-When you get busy with other projects, you're gonna be "neglecting" hers
-"I read that spamming is bad for your website. You don't do that do you!"
-It's all your gonna talk about at dinner
-She never loved you anyway

Just saying, best of luck to you.

Been der, dun dat. Almost to a T with what you said. Especially the bolded parts.

Constant maintenance with super bitching the whole time. Her failure will be your fault. And you will pay for it.

Weren't you the same guy with a wife that ran a military wives blog or something?

Built a military spouse marketplace, the blog was maintained by wife but the entire project was mine.

And gentlemen, give me a little credit here. First rodeo this is not.

Keep the feedback coming though. This has been great. Guest posts are not ruled out.

My girlfriend reads these things religiously and follows them all on instagram and facebook and pinterest and whatnot. I don't get it. They do post on and on about products and fads and shit though, so you could probably sneak affiliate links in there. They have pretty loyal followers who trust them for some goddamn reason.
