i found a keyword i want to develop. the .com is taken and is owned by some brokerage firm with a minimum bid of $500, however the .ca is available.

am i better off getting a domain that has the keyword in it along with other words (broad match), or getting the exact keyword in the .ca?

ill likely end up doing both, but hypothetically if i could only do one, which would work better?

this is strictly for US (and other country) visitors. obviously in canada it wont be an issue

You will have a harder time ranking on Google.com then on Google.ca when using an exact match .ca domain.

If it's worth it and you can acquire it, go with the .com

I'm assuming the exact match .net and .org are also gone?
If not - they'd be better for US traffic than a .ca.
Otherwise, yeah - .ca may be the next best bet, imo.

I've not seen any .ca results come up for searches on Google.com
.ca is meant for local Canadian Traffic/Searches only.

Try other options like The"Keyword".com
or My"Keyword".com
or use hyphen or dash if its a Keyphrase.

depending on the niche $500 might be a small price to pay compared to the effort you'd have to put in in order to rank the .ca. Being a canuk and all myself, I'd never use .ca for anything, even local sites. Just too much trouble for what it's worth :)

For local sites you should go with .ca, it's an automatic boost if you want to get ranked on Google.ca
