xp is really pissing me off. i formatted my hard drive and the xp cd I bought in 2005 doesnt work anymore (the 2nd cd is unreable during install). anyone have an xp cd I can buy from them? pm me. xp is also no longer in stores.
 


Are you kidding me? They no longer sell XP? And they wonder why people pirate there software, sheesh
 
Man, in the future, look up slipstreaming. You can slipstream an original Windows XP disk with SP2 for an automatic SP2 installation during a normal install.

If you had done that, your slipstream disk would be the one not working and you could use your original. Or, just make a 1:1 backup of the CD next time.

To answer your question, TORRENT. It isn't illegal since you'll be using your Windows Key to install which is your license. If you don't like torrent, download an ISO from newsgroups. Not sure what newsgroups are? easynews.com is the service for you.

My point is, you don't need to buy someone's disk with their license. Your license code is still good, all you need is the disk. If you lived near me, I'd make you a copy of my slipstreamed WinXP Pro without hesitation.
 
Yeah I looked at mininova for the torrent yesterday but the download time was incredibly long. I'm trying again today.

But what I dont understand is, how would my key code work with my download? I have the media center edition of xp, and I'll most likely be getting the pro edition.
 
If you have the media center edition, you must find and download the media center edition for your key to work.

Another thought, have you thought about attempting to contact MS support? They might send you a serial-less disk.
 
I'm downloading a torrent of xp. How do I know if its a legit copy? And also its says its an iso. so do I just burn the files on a cd, and boot from the cd when I start up windows? is there anything I should know?
 
just burn the iso file with nero or what ever image /iso burnign software you have. I always downloaded the corprate cds an used a corp lic# .Anyway, did you get a serial number with it? It may fail geniune advantage an you wont recieve all the updates. have fun for the next few hours. If need help i may have a corp serial# hanging around.

I would imagine the file I want is the RAR file, correct? I would just unzip it, put it in a folder, and burn it, and boot from cd.

Is there anything else I need to do?
 
I have the windows xp sp2/sp3 uwin installer edition. When I go to install it, will it be a regular install/version of xp? What does the Uwin edition mean and is there anything I should know about this? Thanks.
 
never hear dof it, sounds like a modified version. looks as if a program to make it auotmatic or some crap.never messed with modifeid versions, your downign from a torrent tracker? If its rar files just extract them an youll have your iso/image file an then burn with software like nero
