OK, I've looked around for the right place to hack the permalink code. Can't find it...

What I would like to do is allow a period to be used in the permalink. Any idea where I can go to change that? I tried modifying the various sanitize functions in formatting.php file. No love there. Any ideas?

For example if I use a tile such as "www.mysite.com is cool" the permalink would be "www.myblog.com/www.mysite.com-is-cool" and not "www.myblog.com/wwwmysitecom-is-cool".

Wordpress Admin > Options > Permalinks Tab

Maybe I'm missing something but did you read my question? Permalinks removes periods by default. I want to leave them in. This has nothing to do with the Permalinks Tab as far as I can tell.

You could probably make a few changes in the htaccess code so any links containing dot com or dot net keep their format
