To any Wordpress developers out there: if I'm manually posting via xml-rpc do I need to also manually send pings too or does WP handle that as if I was posting from the admin?

rogerd, check out PingCrawl. I am biased, but PingCrawl 2 should work with autobloggers & xml-rpc as long as it doesn't bypass the wp framework.
