I have a new wordpress blog that I am setting up. I was wondering when setting up the blog what plugins/widgets/other things you all think are a must and as an option..

Like I installed the Google Analytics one.

I want to make sure my blog gets off the ground and running good.

Thanks

I would install All in One SEO Pack. I would also install a Privacy Policy plug-in, a security plug-in or two, Google XML Sitemaps plug-in, Limit Login Attempts, and a backup plug-in. Those are the basics.

Wordpress SEO by Yoast
W3 Total Cache
Related Posts, nRelate, or YARPP
Quick Adsense
Widget Logic
Akismet
AddThis
WP-PageNavi

Those are some good ones. Depends what you plan to do though as well as what functionality is already built into your theme.

Thanks for the responses. What are your all views on the following for a blog?

abcd.com/blog or abcd.com/abcdnews

Do you think it is better to use just blog as the directory or use a more descriptive word with a keyword in it? Just worndering..

Thanks Again WF Community!!

Optimize Press
Everything you need in a post or a page is here.. Sales/content or whatever it's here.

contact form - 7.2.4
This automatically gives you a contact form to be filled out with your visitors without you telling them your email address

Seo-Pressor
KW density is a must for on page and this typically gives you everything on KW density

Trackback_indexer
Ping all the backlinks you made automatically giving more index rate to your backlinks.

XML site map

That's all I'm using. Analytics I just put them in the post manually

Simple, but, underconstruction..

lets you hide your site when your working on it, comes in handy.

I never do this... Cause if google indexes your site that is under construction your search results with "under construction" will be shown for a 1-2 months.

what I'm doing while building a site is "don't allow google to index the site while it doesn't have a decent build

Just a quick note

They Only plugins that I run are Cloudflare and Contact form 7.

these are for info sites that I run.

Installing the CloudFlare plugin would still require signing up for CloudFlare for us to actually cache and proxy sites (some people think installing the plugin alone does this). I just wanted to clarify, just in the event other people think the same thing by reading the post.

I only use a few simple plugins. Been hacked a few times so I use a few for security.

Login lock
Secure wordpress
Contact form 7.2.4
XML sitemap
