Working with programs and files on same network

I just set up a wireless network and would like to be able to work with files from another computer in that network, I have no clue to how something like this would work, or if I would need to download or buy additional software.

Any advice? I dont want to save the files to the computer in question, just grab from other computer modify then save back to the computer I grabbed it from...

yes the OS on the PC I want to pull the files from is XP, the PC I want to edit, but not save the files to is Windows Vista.

Ive found some settings for syncing and sharing, but things dont seem to be working very well. Reading more on these settings.
