Despite the grabassery and downright meanness that goes on around here, I know that many of you fuckers are downright brilliant developers.

I've always wanted to learn to make WP plugins instead of

1. paying someone else and

(more importantly...)

2. trusting that I'm not paying for a bunch of swiped/bullshit code when I pay someone else.

I have a rudimentary knowledge of PHP so I plan to attack that with a vengeance to polish up. Anyone know of any awesome resources specifically for learning WP plugin development?

get that...you can find it online very easily if you know where to look

He shoots! He scores! This is exactly the kind of thing I was looking for to dig into. Gonna pick up some of the related books as well.

grabassery

Good word.

I find the best way to learn about most frameworks/languages is a few basic tutorials, looking at example code/open sourced stuff, going over the API reference when I come across something new and googling things specific to what I'm working on. Is this the way everyone does it?

I usually watch a screencast, then just start hacking on something. You learn so much faster when you're building a real project.
