My web site is 5 years old with very high rankings for almost all of this time. Most of my relevant keywords were on the first page, usually somewhere on top of the first page.

All of a sudden yesterday the web site was sent into "omitted results".

Does anyone here have experience with this? Do you know how to get me out? How much will you charge?

My site is not banned. All the pages are still there when you search for site:sitename.com

But when you search for keywords where I ranked on the first page, it's not there at all, not on any page until you click on "search omitted results" and that's where it appears.

I checked Webmaster Tools, but it is showing the most inbound links ever.

That said, I wasn't doing SEO for a month, so it's just the old links that Google was still finding. If anything, my pace significantly slowed down because there were no new links, just old links that Google was still finding.

What can be done to get out of "omitted results"? Does anyone have experience with this?

Yes, it's unique results. It's a law firm. I have one page that is very similar to another web site (the penal code), but on the main pages, it's unique in the sense that it's a description of my law firm, as opposed to other law firms.

i have dealt with things like this all the time send the url and the terms you are reffering too and ill see what i can do chances are if i can duplicate the issue i can fix it :) on the house just tryin to help i cant guarantee but good chance ill figure it out

With the new G panda algo, even if you have only one page which has duplicate content, all your website can be penalised...

Omitted results are usually due to duplicate content. G intend is to show one version of a copy if the algo thinks others are duplicate. I suggest you reword similar pages or move them to inner pages.

G knows about these types of pages where users just copy stuff over in forums, privacy policy pages...etc, but don't know about ALL types of pages and you seem to have fallen in that crack.

I made some changes to several pages (not all yet, but I did it to the 3 main pages) and I see that I'm out of the omitted results, but I'm barely in the regular results. Usually, I'm on the last page of regular results. Is this normal for now? Will I bounce back to my old rankings?

With all due respect to the resident SEO gurus that have offered to "save"
you from your horrible disaster, I suggest that you do nothing hasty. It is
probably just Google shuffling things around. The changes that you made
recently probably have not even been assimilated yet.

imo,

I think it's worth a try to re-write some of the duplicate stuff. Funny enough, I definitely had the original material and someone else copied it YEARS later. Yet, G punished me...

It's been 9 days since I got sent into omitted results and for most of the keywords, I'm still there. Some of them got out after day one and went onto literally the last page before omitted results. And I've stayed there since. No movement.

I see in Google cache that spiders have traveled to my website. Yet, no change.

Any idea of what else can be done besides what I already did, which is to re-write content?

First of all have you searched to see if your content has been duplicated? Scrappers will take pretty much everything. Try searching for terms in the middle of your content.

If it has, post your links, and whoever duplicated you on G's webmaster forum in the form of a question - "what can you do about these evil people who have stolen your content?" Make sure you can back up your claims with copies of your site on the wayback machine (archive.org) and post those links to prove age if you can.

lorelle on wordpress has an excellent article on c&d's and DMCA.

G will tell you to DMCA the sites involved. But in the background they will slowly start reversing some of the damage, especially if the sites are shady or have 301 page with your content. Contact the webmasters or the host companies if there is no contact information. Wait 7 days. File DMCA forms for everyone who hasn't removed your content.

Ignore sites that link back to you, unless they outrank you for your content. Point that out in G forum. They will be privately amused. Don't do anything radical to your own site unless duplicated content was syndicated.

Only then should you change your content.

If this is not the case, ask on the webmaster forum anyway. I was surprised to get an answer within 5 hours that solved a 6 month problem.

I am getting absolutely no movement here despite re-writing the text. If fact, if I search for my industry keyword plus the firm's name, I still wind up on the last page or in omitted results, suggesting a heavy penalty.

1. Would a different web design get rid of the penalty?
2. Does it make sense to go to another URL?
3. Does a 301 redirect also transfer the penalty?

Two and a half weeks, you are panicking.

What's the time frame I should be looking at?

I hired a new person to work for my firm, then this happens. I may need to fire him if this goes on long enough, which I would really hate to do. But the firm can't sustain itself on the current level of SEO.
