That Ahmadinejad quote is one of most often repeated lies I've ever heard (Google it and you'll see what I mean). First of all, he was giving a speech in which he was quoting Ayatollah Khomeini. Second of all, the original quote from Khomeini was referring to Zionist warmongers, not the nation of Israel or the Jewish people. Their fear of the Zionists is understandable if you look at their record towards Iran. Khomeini was consistent for years that they would never seek a military confrontation with the Zionists, but hoped to see the collapse of the Zionist regime through popular referendum.

It would literally be akin to Hugo Chavez saying the world will be better off when George Bush and the Neocons were removed from power. Many Americans may be offended by that comment, but I don't think anybody would mistake that to mean "Death to America".

On the other hand, war with Iran seems like an impossibility. Iran is a massive country, plus it's unlikely China and Russia would sit on the sidelines, like they did with Iraq and Afghanistan. And it's not like the US and China can goto war with each other, because that'd be like going to war with yourself. Both economies would plummet almost over night if they went to war. And China and Russia aren't about to give their blessing for a pre-emptive attack on Iran, so...

I don't know, time will tell I guess.
