So I recently got a new Dell laptop running windows 7 -- the first time I loaded a dvd (Pulp Fiction -- great flick) the bitch started trying to send my data back to the mothership. So next day I uninstalled Dell Data safe Backup -- all was well for about a week. Now Every time I start the system I get a window opening that says "DataSafe Update Launcher has stopped working" (I know-- I uninstalled you, bitch!) -- how do I cure this?

Thanks in advance.

Like Jose says thats one way of doing it, or simply checking to see if they added it via the old school method in the startup folder. But if its giving that error some portion of it is still installed. Did you uninstall it properly or did you simply delete it.

When I get a prebuilt computer, I ALWAYS reload the operating system cleanly, I don't leave any of that preinstalled shit on there.

I used uninstall to kill it -- but the beast still lives! And no, its not in startup.

It's a dell.... format.

ok so thanks for your replies -- tried ccleaner like barman suggested still get the message. And for sure I g'd it before posting here-- but there is no apparent solution to this... some mighty pissed off customers though.

ps: I'm probablly quallified to work for dell tech support -- and that is a very alarming notion!

Have you checked msconfig? That'd be my first port of call. I'd also remove everything that has Dell in it's name just to ensure I got rid of it, both within the startup and in programs.

Might also be worth doing a search in registry for the name of the executable that's trying to be ran and removing it. (You should be able to find the name of it in msconfig.)

I'm not really down with Windows, post XP, so might well all be useless! :D

Check in services for custom dell services, it might be trying to run a service and fail, if it's not in msconfig or services then beats me.
