Hi to all,

I am interested in Yoga. Do I Have to Be Vegetarian to Practice Yoga? I know the answer is NO but just wanted to know the difference in impact between VEG and NON VEG yoga doers.

Please stop evangelizing about Yoga, I said I am already interested.

Well when your contorted such that your nose is 2 inches from your asshole, would you rather it smell like rotting veggies or rotting animal flesh?

Ive been practicing yoga for 3 years. It's a life changer for sure.

Your diet doesn't matter. Once you start doing yoga your body will adjust itself. You'll find you need to eat and sleep less and you'll crave foods that are better for you.

Short answer: No you don't need to be vegetarian to practice yoga. Just start practicing and see how it effects your diet choices.

Vegetarianism certainly has huge benefits, but it has to come naturally.
With practice you might notice how your inner experience differs depending on what you eat.
In itself vegetarianism is not enough, if you are serious, it has be clean organic diet.
Arguably, meat is not as big of a problem as GMO corn, GMO soy (tofu), aspartame, flouride & chlorine in your water, MSG, etc.

Let me add BPA to the list. The estrogen-mimicking chemical present in all plastic beverages.

Steve, you rock, but not sure what Yoga has to do with being vegetarian, I used to do yoga, I know few people who do yoga and eat meat etc, I stopped after I started using my stretching skills in other ways, gigidy.

A lot of mma players do yoga. Their focus improves and they can control their breathing better as well as well as the obvious like flexibility and spine / joint health.

What's the purpose of doing Yoga for you?
Is it primarily to get in shape and get healthier?

Important to know that there more profound types of Yoga than simple Hatha Yoga (poses).

Yoga has certain regulations when you practice it beyond a level but for normal mainstream yoga you don't have to worry much about the regulations. Also, I don't think anyone who is into serious yoga would post a yoga advise question on WF.

If a person is into serious yoga (For instance, Nauli, Kumbhaka), he needs to have some control on food and masturbation.

I'm a yoga teacher (It not my profession though) and taught yoga to two yoga teachers in NY last year and got them to improve their syllabus. I have a plan to start teaching yoga as a new side business in future though
