You're the Niche

OK, with the shit with Logiik and other poor ass atempts by newbies trying to start an online business on the fly, I decided to start a biz 101 thread.

If you do it the way Logiik and other noob's in here recently then you'll surely make a fucked name for yourself fast. I'm sure Jon will have some rules fast in here because he doesn't tolerate scammers.

The Niche is You:

Think about it. You must have some talents. You may be good at programming, design, PHP, databases, landing pages, SEO, sales, marketing or whatever. Why not create a tight ass campaign around you? Why not make a real landing page with your offer of service and target other people in forums, blogs that may be looking for what it is you do. Put the anchor text in your signature with a pitch line that is well thought out and will get people to click on it and see what the hell your up to.

If you have your shit together with a good offer, good price, good landing page, good website, you do what you say, deliver results, gather testimonials and operate it like a professional business the you never know. It could take off into a thriving business and you can offer more services thus increasing your income.

I know this one is nothing new but I see nothing but half ass efforts by people that are offering their services in a cheesy non-professional way. Remember we are dealing with primarily savy computer users who are more leery then trustworthy of online marketers so you need to build trust and reputation before you'll start raking in the cash.

I warn you not to even consider this until you have your shit together with a well thought out business plan. Make everything professional before you try to monetize. At first you may even want to give help and service for free at first until you get a good rep in the online communities as someone that is trustworthy and delivers results. Ask these people for testimonial's and then once you have a portfolio of clients, market your offer intelligently and respectfully in online communities.

Never push your shit on people. That will get you banned or a bad name. I'm talking about building a business here by a good reputation by helping people not by using sleazy link tactics.

Here's a quick list of what you'll need to start:

1. Choose your service, offer or product and it better be good. If not then practice and perfect till its great!
2. Make a marketing plan around your offer (remember your marketing to other marketers not consumers)
3. Make it slick and professional and avoid being cheesy. Good landing page, website, email, phone number, helpful articles, posts, free shit etc.
4. Give out free advice and help for people to build a good reputation. It will come back to you 100 fold!
5. Network with other marketing people that have money and business ties
6. Do what you say and over deliver always to everyone
7. Brand yourself and identity online and always think and act with the end result in mind
8. Communicate with clients and let them know of problems right away. Customer service must out way your greed if you want to survive online.
9. Always keep momentum going and never stops working because this will have the compounding affect over time. You may have 1 or 2 jobs and then it will be 3 or 4 and then 6-8, 12-16 and so on.
10. Sharpen your people skills and sales skills by reading and studying good books.

Now go get your shit together and work on your plan. Maybe you'll be able to quit your dull day job soon and tell your boss to screw off!

How do you decide whether or not you're going to use full sentences and proper grammar in your posts? :D

Good read, though. I've been selling that database in my sig for a while and it's pretty cool - definitely makes me want to have more for sale.

Nice post,

Just one thing though BYA.

Isn't this the same like setting up a corporate website for your services and promoting that ?

Similar yes. I just see alot of people marketing there services improperly as opposed to treating it like a real business. If they would think about the long term by doing everything right instead of on the fly they can build a thriving business.

A website should not be corporate but geared to savy internet people so it's more of a marketing website.

If you are selling something whether it be a ringtone or SEO sevices you are a busines and that's what I see people missing on this forum. Even if you have a 9-5 and your doing this on the side, you own a business.

Virtually identical. The point is, you wouldn't see Black and Decker trying to sell you weed wackers on a forum just "claiming" they will work and work well. They have a legit "business front" you can view and navigate. If you're legitimate, why not look like it and take pride in your business. You'll get a ton more customers as well. Hell... a lot of scam artists setup shop like that because it creates instant credibility.

In short... Don't just shlepp shit to sell it - build a "brand" for yourself.

Exactly. Again this for people that have some talent they can monetize and of course is needed. You may be good at spanking your wanky but that aint going to make you money in a forum or online.

There are so many ideas I have for people from forums and blogs that I can build and monetize based on fulfilling a need.

I always look at the world trying to find out what's wrong and a solution I can provide.

In short... Don't just shlepp shit to sell it - build a "brand" for yourself.
