What alternative fuel sources do you believe will be the most cost-effective in the near future for automobiles?

i don't know, but this guy thinks this thread rocks.

It depends what you mean by near future, but I don't think any of those are. I think we will use oil until it is no longer cost effective. I also think the next revolution in energy will be a scientific innovation - similar to the stuff that Nikola Tesla was working on.

Two useful charts:

We don't need alternative fuel in the USA. We've got enough resources right here in our own country to last us over 200 years. We can't tap into it cause all the environmental laws passed in this country.

no we dont

I'd looked at this once before and researchers mentioned biodiesel being 'the best for the planet'. I beg to differ..

We will begin to power everything with our brains very shortly. Kind of like telekinesis on steroids.

I see algae biofuel being used for the future. There have been numerous reports about it for years, Brazil uses it a ton for their energy independence, on it being used to produce biofuel for cars and electricity. It's also safe to drink, should you want too.

There is a report about it being able to replace 17% of our fuel imports over the next couple years if we go this route.

I don't support the view of using a quarter of our water to grow it as the article shows, but there are plenty of other sources that show we can produce the algae through waste such as fish, chickens, etc. In fact, there is a huge potential market for turning unused/non-farm land into production sources for this type of algae production since it can be used to make feed products for livestock/poultry from the excess of algae and byproducts that aren't usable for the biofuel.

Well, I personally think that in the near future people will use electricity as a source of energy for their cars.
