I've been trying to get several unrelated websites/landing pages published quickly .. but it seems like i have to put in $10 and think of a halfway decent domain name before I publish each site. .. is there a better way ?

I've been using dreamhost to host .. i like 1 & 1 to register domain names with .. but transferring from 1 & 1 to dreamhost takes the stupid 60 day wait ..
any ideas ?

When do you usually think of a domain name anyways ? or do you just publish everything under one as subdomains ?

Why are you transferring them to DreamHost? You can register with 1&1 and still have it hosted at DreamHost.

As far as using subdomains, it depends on what I'm doing; my arbi sites are under one domain.

No, he's saying you should be able to register the names and just change the name servers. They're probably like ns1.dreamhost.com and ns2.dreamhost.com but check their FAQ or Help something.

OH!! that makes sense. Thank you !

So then why would anyone want to transfer a domain away from the host you registered with ? And just out of curiosity, what's the 60 day waiting period on that for ?

People transfer out for several reasons:
1. Horrible support
2. Shitty control panels
2. Organization
3. Or for economic purposes

Sometimes registrars will have amazing deals like $2.50 per domain, but their service is shitty and the catch to the cheap price is that it renews the second year at like $12.. So rather than dealing with the high price to renew and their bad support.. people will buy at $2.50, keep it at that registrar for like 9 months, and transfer to a different registrar for like $9.

So basically, you've gotten 21 months of registration for a total $11.50 - or about $6.50 a year if you do the math.

If you have enough domains this can save you a LOT of money.

personally i would never register a domain through a host. i did my first domain that way and will never do it again. since i was a noob and didnt check they retained ownership of the domain. it was a bitch to get it back and yes it took a long ass time to transfer.

1&1 is great, just consolidate all of your domains to a few registrars depending on how many you have for the easy of managing them all.
