This Wikileaks thing

This guy is a journalist who is publishing material that was given to him. It was NOT stolen by him and he is not a US citizen (so treason is not an issue). Now some fucking high profile redneck senators are saying that he should be KILLED. Land of the free MY ASS!!!!

He is now being hounded by the Swedish establishment for sex crimes and has been arrested by the UK police awaiting possible extradition. Guess what his crimes were???? Not using a condom during consensual sex. What a fucking joke!

I stand up and applaud the man who uncovers the lies and deceit of the establishment and is willing to be hounded to the ends of the earth to continue his mission. This planet is not owned by the few and they need to be help accountable for their actions!!

Are you aware that over 3 MILLION people have access to these "secret" documents? Thats THREE FUCKING MILLION PEOPLE. If you think that there is information in there that is so sensitive that it has or will cost people their lives then the US government is doing a pretty shit job protecting that information and for that reason alone should be held accountable and this "leak" has shown how pathetic their security actually is. Let me say it again in case it didn't sink in THREE MILLION PEOPLE!!!

The REAL reason that the US politicians want his blood is that these leaks show very clearly what regard the US government have for other nations. UK a special relationship my ass! Hilary Clinton ordered US diplomats to SPY in the United Nations, should the UK and other countries not ask for her to be "taken out"?

The only people under threat here are the ones that should be held accountable for the crimes against decency and humanity and we all know who they are.

Do you think that the U.S is the only country using diplomats to spy on other nations? No, in fact, using diplomats is usually the safest way to gather intelligence on other countries.

I wasn't surprised when I found this out, were you?

Not at all. But this guy is not from the US, so even if he is a spy, as some of them call him, then why is he getting hounded and Clinton isn't? Bit of a double standard don't you think? So if you come from the US it is fine to do things like that, but OH NO it is not fine if you are a foreigner?

Also the reason I was talking about the "special" relationship between the US and UK is nothing to do with the Clinton Spying Scandal and 100% to do with the leaked documents:

e.g.

The Americans observed that the eagerness to maintain the political understanding "would often be humorous if it were not so corrosive" and that, in theory, the US could take advantage to "make London more willing to respond favourably when pressed for assistance"."

Just a small example.

"Special relationship" sounds more and more like a pedophile and its prey the more you hear the actual views expressed by the US government.

You may ask why care what the US thinks of this special relationship, but it was off the back of this that MANY UK troops died fighting in the illegal war in Iraq that George Bush started.

I think it is quite right that the UK and other nations know what the US really think of them. And maybe next time wont be as quick to follow them blindly into another massacre.

Actual spies get to return to Russia and then pose for Maxim and get their own iphone apps. Where's the outrage and boycotts?

Poker with Anna Chapman for iPhone, iPod touch, and iPad on the iTunes App Store

Someone has just killed over 1,000 people walking into the stadium of the San Francisco Giants . Perp is NOT in custody. You know he is about to show up at another sporting event to kill.

In this situation you would have tons of other people also willing to go kill in the stadiums. Some of these people might even have anonymous robots that can use guns.

The government would only play whack-a-mole with stadium shooters for so long before going after the guns. It's similar here as if they can't stop documents from leaking at the source, then their solution might be tighter internet controls.

still waiting for the release of UFO photos and evidence of Middle-Earth.

....still confused how torrents got busted harder than these guys.... guess that poison-pill thing might be a whopper!

It is just fun to see all those idiots going batshit insane who originally had some "privacy is only for those who have something to hide" position.
I dont really care for Assnage, but he turned the table quite well on those who always were the ones wanting more data and control. I just hope he gets many more stuff leaked.GAY

The 'insurance' file thats available via torrent, as far as i'm aware - and im sure Assange himself has mentioned it in one of his interviews, is simply an archive of the entire wikileaks site database.

The reason they did this is that with the continual attempts to shut down and DDOS the wikileaks site to hell, they have insurance by the way of the archive. If the wikileaks site goes down for good and they cant get it rehosted for whatever reason, they simply release the key to the archive and suddenly 100's of thousands of people will start posting up the archive all over the net, making the leaks virtually impossible to eradicate.

People are already doing this via mirror sites and what not, but i think the torrent file is just another form of keeping the data out in the public.

I could be wrong, but this seems to be a growing consensus in a ton of forums / torrent sites, and the size of the torrent file concurs with that as well.

I don't think this is right. Assange's lawyer has called the insurance file a "thermonuclear bomb" (or something like that). The file supposedly contains some critical secrets about Gitmo and other shit that would majorly fuck up the situation in the US.

Or, it could be a huge fucking bluff.

Or, it could be a huge fucking bluff.

I doubt it's a bluff. He said it contained names and other information on every spy, soldier, government official, etc. that has ever been submitted to Wikileaks. That implies that it is the uncensored version of Wikileaks, and that what's up now has been screened and left out some details to protect people.

I also expect that since they are carefully reviewing the cable files and following the same practice of protecting people that they deem would cause harm to people, they might just release all the cable information without screening in the future should something happen.

Oh, and nickster , mind not triple posting every time your reply on a thread? You've done this on other threads as well.

I understand making a new post if the 10 minute cutoff has past, but on a lot of your replies, you just reply minutes later after the previous post. The edit button is there for a reason man, it's hard to know if you're replying to someone or just continuing a thought with your current posting style.

Step away from the rights and wrongs of what Wikileaks are doing for a minute. The fact is that nobody has been convicted of any wrongdoing, and no court has heard evidence against or ordered any action to be taken against the organisation.

And yet still Paypal, Amazon, Visa, Mastercard, EveryDNS, a Swiss bank and several other companies have ceased any relationship with them. In the case of Amazon at least, this was at the request of Joe Lieberman.

On the whim of a politician, you can be made persona non grata.

Worrying times, regardless of how you stand on what they're doing/have done.

I made this point in another thread.

All these companies have user agreements that allow them to cancel their services for almost any reason. It's perfectly legal to do so.

It's not that a politician requested it. It's that what WikiLeaks was involved in was clearly illegal. I haven't seen a sound argument that argued for WikiLeaks as doing the right thing here. Was hoping to see someone step up and defend them.

edit: KKK is stupid, but not illegal. I think? (Depends on what they are doing, really)

Sorry, you are right. I just thought that by writing a longer post most people here wouldn't bother to read it, with so much of this A.D.D. going around. Will stop posting like that.

Clearly illegal?? What law has it broken? If it could be found to be illegal then the US would have issued an international arrest warrant ages ago. Instead they pressure Sweden to open an old case (with trumped up charges) that was previously dropped.

Are you aware that MANY main stream publications have also published the same material? Why are the US government not trying to hunt down the owners of these news organisations? They wouldn't get crucified by the public if they tried to censor a main stream newspaper in this way (threatening hosts and pressuring countries).

Do you know that the Australian government are threatening to take away his passport and make him persona-non-grata in his own country because of pressure by the US government. Absolutely disgusting! The man hasn't broken any laws and he is being pursued like a mass murderer!

We have the right to know!!!

Why aren't they going after NYTimes and other papers? they all collaborated with Wikileaks and published the same stuff.

It's just the politicians want to be seen as taking action. So they have to do something. They can't go after the established media (NYTimes, etc), but they can after Assange, or at least trying to or attempting to look like they are.

Why do you claim it is okay to peddle stolen information that is of a sensitive nature that could harm national interests including national security and diplomatic ties, let alone lead to possible setbacks in the war on terror and the compromising of the safety and lives of people?

You have as much right to know this shit as I have the right to know details of your own personal correspondence.

Firstly there is no such thing as the war on terror, you cannot have a war on an ideal. Terror is making people so afraid that they implement strip machines and sexual molestation of their own citizens. And when you want to prosecute someone who hasn't broken any laws its easy, just brand him/her a terrorist. War on terror has officially been lost a long time ago.

The leaders of the free world need to be held accountable to their own citizens and not to brand every thing that may harm their future power struggles as "national security" issues. In this day and age Nixon would never have lost his power as Watergate would have been shut down as a national security matter.

I ask you if the information was sensitive enough to cause the loss of lives then why have it accessible by 3 million people? Surely a leak to a foreign power would be a surety when the information is so easy accessible. If anything Wikileaks has shown a huge security gap that needs to be plugged (thats if the information is actually THAT sensitive). This is not top secret information we are talking about and Wikileaks is not the only one to publish the "stolen" information.
