The more I think about what happened, the more I'm comfortable with her receiving jail time.

If we use the excuse that a person is stupid and therefore shouldn't receive punishment, it would be that much easier for the truly corrupt to get off scot-free by claiming a lack of intelligence.
 


Obviously it wasn't an accident. Did she intend for her kid to die? Probably not but she herself stated that she "often left him alone because she didn't want to make him a mama's boy" WTF. She left him in the tub alone all the time so it wasn't a one time occurrence so fuck her and her fat ass friends she was talking to on facebook. Hopefully she will be gang raped with forks in prison.

Dont' take it personally; Corporations and their vast amounts of Money have been corrupting government for the last 100 years at least. :)

Maybe you're right (OMG!!!!). She might have actually held his head under water because she was tired of hearing him cry. IDK. But the fact that she called 911 and admitted to playing on Facebook leads me to believe she probably didn't have any ill intent. Is she a dumb redneck who needed some parenting courses? yes, but I don't think that leaving the kid in the bath to play, however dumb, was criminal even if the result was bad. If she had buried the baby in the backyard, or even lied about what happened, then I would buy it.

And the truly corrupt do get off scot-free many times. It's the morons who don't understand what their rights are, or the nature of police investigations and talk to the cops instead of getting an attorney that end up paying big.

Either way, I don't think this women had criminal intent. And I definitely don't think 10 years in prison is going to serve any purpose other than increasing the tax burden.

Of course I would want to see all the loopholes tightly sewn shut but on this one I just can't justify prison as being an acceptable answer for the crime (yes, you'r right it was a crime) committed.

Let's put it this way: If she had committed a similar crime that hurt only other people for her gain, then yes, such steps have to be taken in civilized society in order for the masses to not WANT to follow her example and gain the same thing themselves. Prison would be used as deterrent to stop others who WANT the same thing she got.

-But In this case, the person she most hurt left alive in this world is herself. Even if she had secretly wanted to kill her own child; she'd be an extremely rare case and there is little to no point spending taxpayer money in order to SET AN EXAMPLE for others who want to kill their own children.
 
really dont see how locking this person up does anything except enrich the prison industry with our tax dollars and guarantees this women will be on welfare for the rest of her life, wasting more money. Plus maybe she'll learn how to be a real criminal in prison.

A friend of mine's son drowned in a pool and the DA went after her for negligence. At that point there is no punishment on earth worse than what she went through. The judge agreed. Its one thing if there was obvious intent to kill the child, barring that this is pointless and counterproductive.

Now that the morons and mindless gawkers are filing out of the room, it becomes obvious that we haven't pointed at a solution to this kind of problem in the future.

How would we fix this from happening again? Is there a practical way at all, or would it take a full parental license with manditory IQ testing each year of your breeding age until you pass?

Or even a situational band-aid, such as encouraged motherhood classes that would have taught her to never leave a 1-yr-old unattended?

ALL of them are ideologically conservative, (it's the most right-wing culture imaginable! Skin heads breed there...) and mostly all of them benefit from welfare programs and government handouts.

Thus proving that welfare families are not ideologically liberal... Their vote is ALWAYS open to the candidate who they last heard offering them the biggest handout.

When you have a kid you have responsibilities to look after them. If this was a 4-5 year old kid then I could see it as an accident and no charges would make sense. But a 13 month old child? Come on... thats straight up neglect. She obviously didn't care about the child if she left it alone in a bath tub to play a fucking game.

And this shit has nothing to do with making money off her lmao.. They have enough people who get tossed in jail for shit like drugs. I'm sure the women who neglect their babies isn't a big money maker for the prison system..
