Immigration is a bit of a personal issue for me. I've been following the debates and looking at how both sides deal with the issue.

And I'm confused as hell about what's actually going on with the border.

On one side we have people saying Mexican drug dealers and invading, headless bodies are being found all over the place. Another is saying crossings are down.

Why the hell is there no objective, consistent consensus on what's going on with the border?

probably some pockets a lot further away being filled as well.
Why does the governor have to have federal permission to protect a states borders? of course, if the fed is going to take funding away from the state for protecting its own borders, then that can be a deterrent as well. What we get for feeding at the public trough.

Ask yourself this simple question, Ar:

Which Corporate sector makes more money from the border... The one that sells the guns or the one that puts up the fence?

The answer to that question is the one lobbying Washington with bottomless coffers to make sure the situation does not get solved soon nor inexpensively.

That doesn't really sound inconsistent to me. Overall crossings by huge numbers of day laborers could be down while drug cartel crime/murder/crossings are up.
