Yes, I've got a taste for those unmasculine, candified european coffies, most especially the Roman cappuccino. I simply don't start my day without one anymore... Or at least a MacGyvered version of one from my damn Mr. Coffee machine and some whipped milk in a pan.

But there's hope! I just found this at JC Penney's site:

Capresso 4-cup Espresso & Cappuccino Machine

Anyone know if this thing is worth it's weight in coffee beans?

Or what kind of cappo maker do you use?

Thanks!

Is there a link to this? That's also the name of a flavor of coffee so I can't find a maker named this in teh googlez...

I use a Nespresso espresso machine all the time, it's changed my life for the better - I'm a machine now.
Sweet... Never wanted to drop $500 on a coffeemaker before seeing the Lattissima line.

...But I don't know if It's worth becoming a machine. Sounds painful. ;)

I make a mocha latte every morning before leaving to go to the office. Honestly, any espresso machine under $300 isn't worth it and you might as well just get a drip coffee machine. The cheaper ones don't build up enough pressure for decent extraction and don't get hot enough for steaming milk properly.

Breville makes some great machines but they're expensive. I use one like this that's a few years/models older.

I was worried about that issue... But at the same time I'm also into simplicity and don't want to buy a machine where I've got to clean out any tanks with cleaning pellets or keep up with too many parts... Are there any out there with just a few dishwasher-safe parts to remove and clean, regardless of price?

Wow, that thing looks like it's got quite a learning curve... How long did it take you to learn how to make a good capaccino?

Just go spend 1500 to 2000 on a used commercial machine with an internal boiler. Will virtually pay for itself in no time (no more trips to starfucks)

Gaggia makes a great machine. I have a baby gaggia. I'm powered by caffeine. We spent like 500 for it if I remember right but that was like 10 years ago.

Macchine caffe espresso Gaggia

And get some Lavazza espresso to burn in that bitch -- you can't go wrong.

Now that just can't be easy to clean...

Not to mention the amount of counter space it takes up!

Seriously dude they aren't that bad. Take up maybe 3 feet of counter space (you can find 1 head for cheap) and very easy to clean. The internal boiler is piped right off your sinks water line (so no adding water) and you dont touch it. The only thing you clean is under the heads you take 1 screw out and and clean a small area for major cleaning and for weekly cleanings you put about table spoon in the head and it cleans most of the shit out and done. Seriously if your going to spend 300 to 500 step up a little bit and you will be so thankful you did.

Like this one?

Looks pretty good and cheap too if gotten used... I can't find a store in the USA that sells them new so unless I happen upon an Italian around here who wants to ship one to me then it looks like I have to settle for an eBay'd gaggia. Think that would make a difference?

And how are they on maintenance?

Cheers for the tip.

Too rich for my blood. We're talking coffee, man, not all meals put together!

Is this the one with capsules? Looks pretty legit.
I wouldn't buy any machine that uses capsules or any other proprietary ammo system simply because that maker could go out of business and there'd be no more ammo. I've seen it happen before with coffee in fact.

So now I need 3 feet of counterspace on the same side of the kitchen with the sink? Hmm... Your argument isn't getting better.

A table spoon of what?

Depending on what I can find for sale under $1k, I'd consider this, assuming there is enough counter room near my sink... And of course if maintenance is as easy as you say. But it's a coffee maker man, Paying 1-1.5K is ludicrous. Surely some of these $300-$500 machines can make some great cappuccino?

Thanks again to all.

I have 2 nespressos however they're good, but I'd buy something that takes the relatively new Illy pods.

Because Illy is as close to god as you can get.

I have been using De' Longhi coffee maker for almost 4 years and has been happy with it. Till date, I strongly believe they are top espresso machine in the market. I highly recommend you to get this brand as opposed to others.

We have a Jura in our office. It's very very good. Get a bean to cup coffee machine.

Don't forget that to be a 'true' coffee snob you're supposed to buy a grinder that costs twice what you paid for the coffee machine.

I don't subscribe to the theory myself, but it seems to be repeated a fair bit on coffee forums.

Thanks jmizzle!

No need. Only two parts need to be cleaned, the container that holds the grinds and the milk steamer. Just throw the grinds in the trash and rinse the filter out with some water and wipe the outside of the steamer then run it for a few seconds into some water. The steamer twist apart real easy into 3 parts and that goes into the dishwasher once a week to get the film off. The bottom tray also goes into the dishwasher once in a while but it's all stainless so it's easy.

It's actually really easy. Dump the beans in the top. It grinds the beans to the perfect grind into the filter, pack it down with the tamp, screw the filter on and press the button for 1 shot or 2. Steam the milk afterwards the brew. Rinse everything and you're done.

Takes me 5 minutes right before leaving the house. My only complaint is the grinder is fucking messy. But coffee doesn't get any better than when it's ground right before use, costs about $.50/cup, takes less time than driving to Starbucks and tastes better.

PM me if you have any other questions.
