This is a very entertaining thread, but I'm a noob and must admit I don't fully understand how the idea works.

You create a profile with some hot chick photo at a public chat board like Craig's list, bait men to talk to you and give them an affiliate link for the dating site you have an affiliate account with?

If this is the plan, I don't see how anybody's stupid enough to fall for a dating site recruitment come-on.

I went to one of my affiliate sites and put a link on my homepage for a dating site. I went to the dating site and signed myself up as a hot chick and got paid the $3.50 for the referral. I didn't go to any other board, just the dating site. Some lusty person answered me. I'm not feeling rich yet, so please explain how this is monetized in a significant way.

And t a l k v e r y s l o w l y c u z I ' m a n o o o o o o b i e.

There is a sucker born every minute...

Never scrap an idea because you think that people "aren't stupid enough" to fall for it.

here's the biggest money making secret of them all:

People really are that dumb. You can sell them ANYTHING once.

Just look at the most successful offers online and tell me if you think they are marketing to 140 IQ's and above?

They aren't marketing to IQ's at all. But to real HUMAN EMOTION. intellgence means shit if you are controlled by emotions. Some of the worlds greatest thinkers freely admit their lack of emotional control in certain situations can and has cause d determent in their lives.

So does brain power have anything to do with whether or not we buy?

It depends on what we are shopping for.

It's easy to sell sex to a guy with a hard on. Doesn't matter if he's a rocket scientist or a dishwasher. If the timing and the price are right he'll buy.

Now I should say at this point, it's your responsibility as an ethical marketer to make sure that you don't "rip off" or swindle anyone. Especially those less intelligent than you. Choose programs that help fulfill a need. Put said program in front of needy people.

eg. Find a hole and fill it. (heh heh)

What did PT Barnum say? Oh yeah I think it was
"Look at all the smart people!" :D

Smart people pay .25 cents to see the freaky-bearded-horse lady too.

Dumb does not = sucker.

Smart does not = consumer smart, street smart, will power smart, etc.

Sucker = BORN EVERY MINUTE in fact, we are all suckers.

Thats what old PT Barnum was getting at:
He didn't mean a sucker is born every minute.
What he was saying was:

a human being is born every minute, and every human being is a sucker at least once in his or her life.

Once again, intelligence level means NOTHING when it comes to marketing.

Especially when it comes to sex as a driving force. But any driving force really.

When it comes to cyber sex, everyone is a porn star, the girls want nothing but cock, and all the guys are super successful, in shape, and drive BMW's.

Don't believe me? Do a poll on craigslist ask all the horny guys what kind of car they drive. 80% of men looking for sex on CL drive a vehicle worth 75k or more! Amazing!

So will they fall for it? If they answer your email about the car, they already are falling for it.

So what are you going to ask them next?

Okay, roger that. I wasn't sure I understood the plan because it seemed so far-fetched.

do you guys think this could be considered (and prosecuted hence) as spam?
I mean...using AFF feature to send out an affiliate link to hundreds of email addresses...
do you think there's any risk regarding the dating site (aff or whatever) or the email provider you use (in case of a real autoresponder and not ther AFF one) sueing us?

yeah, I might sound pathetic, I might actually be pathetic...

Pure Genius. I think I'll print this one and put it somewhere in my office.

Honestly.

Aww shucks, thanks! I'll tell you what, send me something of yours and I'll hang it up in my office too.

I don't believe I can help you with your self esteem issues, today.

However I might be able to provide opinions on the other questions that might lead you to some solid answers.

Yes, sending out unsolicited offers is spam.

one more time

UNSOLICITED offers = spam.

So what if your new "friend" asks you for a link? Is it then illegal to send it? Nope not according to CAN-SPAM, (I think, This is my interpretation I'm not a lawyer)

However it is against CL's terms and conditions to do affiliate marketing. Bait and switch, etc. Pose as anyone your not, etc. It's a pretty simple read, highly recommended if you plan on using his site.

The key, with all of this, is to simply be honest.

First, find people who need help or can help you.

If they need help help them.
If they want to help, tell them how to.

If money changes hands somewhere in the process, that's okay too. As long as everyone is honest and clear about there end of the deal, making money is permissible.

In fact, thats what money was designed for, as a way to thank people for helping you.

People love help in all forms. Giving and receiving help is a common human trait. We are program to assist and be assisted.

FIND THESE PEOPLE.

No matter what methods you use to find people, as long as you are honest, ( ie NOT DECEITFUL,) you will do just fine.

Can you be honest and still "Hustle?"

Why yes, yes you can.

What fulfills all of the above requirements my friends?

The answer is Yahoo! answers

Well this thread inspired me to think....
I realized I had a report on something similar.
One of those Warrior Forum WSOs.

It was actually pretty good.
Involved getting profiles & entering chat rooms & using an automatic away message with a url to a dating site (your affiliate URL of course) saying meet me in this chat room.

They sign up & bam.... money.
I am printing it out I will try it at some point.

I thought of an scheme, and welcome you to tell me how noobie/overdone it is.

Put up an ebay auction for a high paying offer like Blockbuster, free or start at a penny and sell it for practically nothing.

Sign them up using your affiliate link, and give them a rebate for the full cost of the customer's first month, which I think is $9.99 for the Blockbuster. The customer gets a month of movies for almost nothing, and you get the affiliate fee, which is four times the cost of the subscription. They can cancel or continue using the service.

Would this work?

You would have to check to make sure that the offer can be incentivized 1st - there are sites out there that pay people $ for them to try out an offer (similar to your penny social site...).

Not sure if its against ebays policy though - you can always try it out and get a warning. I do know you can't post links on ebay so the affiliate link would have to come from you direct to the person.

I saw a guy promoting GameFly in the membership section a while ago with a link

Was it an ended auction, or still running? Ended means they allow it, or not terrific at catching it.

I don't intend to do this thing, as it's risky. Not only for the reasons stated above by Reefer, but because you take a chance hoping that the customer will click on the correct right link so you get paid, and if they had an account previously they can't reregister, thereby nullifying your affiliate payment. Either way, you have to pay them back the full amount you promised.

Or can you reregister for a BB a/c using a different email? As I said, not doing this. I just have my thinking hat on.

any updates on this? is this against TOS? Is there any other company besides AFF that doesn't moderate?
