In my Namecheap account, I have about 50 more whois subscriptions than I have domains. I never noticed this earlier... I am not sure how it came to be...

I checked all my domain, and I did have about 10 domains where I didn't activate the whois, but that still leaves me with 40 additional whois.

While I was tinkering around, I also found out that I can use these whois to extend another domain's whois whos whois expired.

But how did I end up with 40 additional whois?? I can't think of anything....

Namecheap has the whois privacy you can buy in packs of 5, 10, etc. to add to existing domains. If you haven't purchased any of those, then I don't know how you ended up with extras.

I also don't know how I ended up with domains where the privacy expiration doesn't correspond with the domain expiration date. Probably shouldn't go messing with that stuff when I'm not sober.

Well when you register domains you get a free privacy protection and if you don't click the box it doesn't activate (although the time on the 1 year of free privacy starts ticking as soon as you register). If you go back and start applying them to the domains you didn't activate it for you can use the privacy you bought with different domains and end up like that. I know that's happened to me.

Ah... I think I know what I did. I must have no activated the whois when I bought the domain. Then saw that the domains don't have whois, so I went ahead and bought whois for those at a later date, cursing Namecheap for a false promise of free whois lol. Must have done it when I first shifted to Namecheap.
