My webhost has a quick & easy installation process for wordpress sites, but after that I'd like to customize the installation with some of the better plugins out there for SEO.

Are there scripts out there for setting up these things, or is this a manual set of steps I'll have to employ for each and every WP Blog site I set up?

I know I'm possibly opening up a can of worms here, but is there a de facto set of SEO plugins I should install for all my WP sites? I'm guessing this has been discussed before and there's a thread elsewhere on WF linking some of the more popular ones?

Like was said, everyone has their own preferences. A few you might want to check out though:

-Platinum SEO Pack: has all the stuff that All-in-One SEO has (you can even import your stuff from there), and a bit more.
-StatCounter
-Google Analyticator
-Akismet

I'd consider that the bare-bones minimum for any site I'd put up. After that, just look around and see what you think might be useful for you.

Good first post. + rep.
Add Google Sitemap XML Plugin to that list.

im deploying quite a few WP installations en mass, and have a nice package with plugins and a good /img directory in place.

my question is this: what is the best way to deploy appropriate permissions? i.e. when i go into a fresh install, WP asks for FTP perms, and gives errors that .htaccess has the wrong perms. any way to "package" the permissions?

You can use wp-twin to do something like this.

I also know there is a plugin that you can install after installing a wp theme that can download/install a bunch of plugins for you automatically, forgot the name but I found it pretty easily.
