Where were you on 9-11-01?

6th grade learning what a terrorist was.

This brings up an interesting point: How was terrorism explained to you younger guys? (The ones young enough to still be in school or at least who had never seen news about terrorism before personally...)

Did they tell you that lots of bad guys out there want you to die because america is fat and lazy?

I was a freshman in college and were were all sitting waiting for the teacher to come....he walks in and says "they are flying planes into buildings"

I thought the guy was off his rocker. Then they sent us home.

Well they certainly didn't sugar coat it, but at the time I had no idea that people were constantly plotting attacks against us.

What did really surprise me though, and this was the interim before we knew it was Osama, is that we were waiting for whatever organization/terrorist group to admit they in fact were behind it. I expected whoever to shut the fuck up. I later realized it was more of a power thing.

I was in 8th grade in my math class. I remember hearing it over the PA and me and my friend thought it was a twin plane that accidentally crashed into it. We stayed the whole day and people were in and out of the counselor's office.

8th grade in history class, though it was 12th of September morning it happened in our timezone, the whole community even out here in Australia was at a standstill.

Do I care about all the people shot, run over, died of cancer, died of falling pianos, in car accidents, OD on drugs, or starved to death in africa everyday?

No I didn't care. I knew none of them, I have never been to NY, they died the sky was not falling. Do I feel bad that they died in a most horrible fashion? Sure, thats a horrible way to go for sure and I felt sorry for them.

There are nearly 7 BILLION people on this earth, why do you care so much about those 3,000 when more die each day from god only knows what random event.

I mean it's not like the entire political and economic landscape wasn't affected. Not at all.

I was in my 9th grade spanish class. The entire day at school was spent watching tv's and having discussions about what had just happened.

Oh, and BeerNuts is a queer.

Had just flown home from Tokyo the night before from a gig, roomate woke me up to the news, my promoter lived in NYC and was in the air trying to land when it happened.

funny how many of you were in grade school. i was walking in to work and someone else said something about it. worked like usual. didn't really care much to be honest. still don't care. i probably wouldn't care if aliens invaded the earth either though.

I was in my 5th Grade. The only thing I remember, was my patents watching the news channels for the next 2 days continuously.

That was the first time, I came to know about terrorism, Osama Bin Laden etc.. Was freaked out that human beings can be so ruthless.

I was about to be 21.. in a bad relationship and an awesome college. My ex had hit me that day for the first time.

You will learn compassion one day, theres a difference between directly caring for people that die and having compassion. Its something you learn when the ignorance wears off from the white people problems you face everyday.

I was 20 and on my way to class....running late as usual. I didn't know anything was up until I walked into the lobby and tons of people were gathered around the TV.

Still had no idea what was going on until I get to class and my teacher was didn't you hear what happened and I was like no. lol

I remember all the major news websites had to take down their main sites and put up a very basic 1 page HTML site with no pictures or else their servers would crash from the traffic they were getting.

Aren't you a fucking cool guy. Too cool to care. Yeah!

As for the original question...

I was asleep in Vancouver and the girlfriend's sister called to say the WTC had been "bombed" again. Turned on the TV in time to see the second plane crash. When the first tower fell I knew right then that there would war. Called a good friend of mine to tell him to get his ass in front of a TV ASAP. He's now in Iraq doing security work. Skipped out of work and spent the rest of the day glued to the TV mesmerized by what was happening. Still find the whole thing quite unbelievable.

why does everyone think their 9/11 story is important? unless you were in the towers, who gives a fuck where you were?

My story isn't important, but the OP asked.
