I've been with The Planet (now Softlayer) for a good 7 years. Have a dedicated box with them. Uptime has (almost) never been an issue until yesterday. My box went down at 5:30 PM EST and is still down as I write this (> 19 hours later).

I'm fucking pissed beyond belief. I'm paying for monitoring services and these dipshits are stumbling over themselves to fix Apache for 19 hours!!!

I've lost quite a bit of money over this and I'm moving my sites as soon as I'm back online.

Can someone recommend a hosting company that has really good uptime, customer support, and all that other stuff you'd expect... but on the same token is on the ball when shit happens and gets you back online FAST?

check out dedicatednow owned by fortressITX who are a top notch operation.

Thanks bro. DedicatedNow looks good on the surface. I'm going to call them up and grill them a bit. How long have you been with them? Any issues thus far?

Liquidweb, no question.

Been with them for years and they're on top of problems within minutes. Ridiculously good I can't even begin to think of looking elsewhere.

I say Rackspace for cloud and Hostgator for dedicated. I know Hostgator is expensive and not for everyone but they have great support and fully managed servers.

I've been with Liquid for years, and feel the same. I don't have a dedicated box, so I can't vouch for 'em in that area. But in my experience, their shared and VPS boxes are fast, and problems (which are rare) get resolved quickly.

If Liquid were a provider in SBT, they'd crash the iTrader system.

Webair. I use them and a huge amount of the porn industry does too. They reliably provide fapping content, this means they are good.

I use hostgator for dedicated and I've been satisfied up to this point. No major issues and they're quick to respond to emails and the wait times for phone calls are reasonable.

Thanks for the input guys. I'll make my phone calls and then go w/ my gut.

I'm pretty sure Hostgator is a reseller of The Planet, so, don't know what to say to that. Perhaps as a reseller they may be more on the ball when things happen.

I have used Hostgator for years and they have awesome support. I have also used their reseller plans and you can't beat that for the cost.

I had a bad billing experience with DedicatedNow 7 or 8 years ago and I never forget shit like that.

No host is perfect, but IIRC, sometimes servers go down and monitoring doesn't trip. There is no such thing as 100% uptime.

I think the important question is why your server has been down for so long. Softlayer support used to be first class.

I'm assuming your box is in Dallas? or is it Seattle?... Either way, yeah your story is not unheard of.

Jumping ship prematurely may not be the best option, unless your completely frustrated...

Dallas. And yes, I'm completely frustrated. Over 24 hours and the problem isn't solved. To make matters worse, a higher-up, instead of apologizing and offering some kind of service on the house, got all arrogant and snappy with me. After 7 years of rebills to be treated like shit? Fuck them.
