You're working on borrowed energy with this shit guys.. trust me I was on it every day for a year. Be careful, only take it a few times a week (at max), and cycle off it for a few weeks every so often.

This. It's not just borrowing energy (like using caffeine to short sleep is). It's borrowing energy from a loan shark who will rape you consistently for the next few years, even after you thought you'd paid it all back.

I used amphetamines for a LONG time to help me work. It seems really smart at the time. Looking back on it, it was fucking stupid and the only reason I've come out without organ damage is I'm blessed with the constitution of an ox.

What people don't realise is that there are two come downs off this shit. There's what happens if you've been doing it for a day or two, then stop. That comedown normally lasts about 6-8 hours.

Then there's what happens after you've been doing it for a few years (on and off), then stop altogether. That comedown lasts 12-18 MONTHS as your body reverts to normal, during which you're a fucking vegetable with no motivation whatsoever.

The other thing to consider is the long term effect on your attention span. Once you get used to working on uppers, it becomes much harder to work without them. I reckon it's taken me 4 or 5 years to get my ability to concentrate fully back (using stuff like meditation to build it back up again) to where it was before I started with that shit.

I'm sure cycling it bodybuilding style would probably help. However GL having the self-discipline to do that consistently.

Don't get me wrong - I'm not anti-drugs. I'm just anti taking them every day.

It's amazing to me how any substance can change your motivation. Make you more focused or stimulated? OK fine. Hallucinations or make you stoned? OK. Make you more risk-taking? OK. Break down your social inhibitions? OK.

But motivation? Isn't that something "pure" and "authentic" that can't be chemically influenced? Well, I guess not, everything seems to be at the mercy of the combination of chemicals in our brain at any given moment.

Now I wouldn't be surprised if other things considered deeply "natural" such as love, compassion, morals, etc. - are just some arbitrary combinations of chemicals in the brain.

Think about it.

Erm... yes, of course they are. What else would they be? Your entire conscious experience is dictated by your current brain biochemistry.

From my experience, in simplest terms here's the biggest difference addy makes:

off addy: don't want to do stuff that I need to do
on addy: want to do it or at least don't mind doing it

additional: 1) persistence in seeing that task is completed despite any difficulties 2) emotional indifference to arising difficulties 3) don't mind dealing with boring details of anything.

So it doesn't make me smarter or whatever. It basically kills laziness. If I do shit, it's going to be roughly the same quality whether on or off addy. It's just that addy makes me actually do it and follow thru and complete it. Pretty crazy. Laziness cure or something.

I find this arguable. Does it increase the amount of brain percentage you use? Probably not (This is not NZT-48 folks) But it clears away the fog that makes you stupider, speeds things up so that you are able to both grasp concepts more quickly and able to pay attention to minute details.

So basically it allows you to achieve your full potential.

This is true. A good analogy is with glasses. Once I started wearing glasses, my already poor eyesight went to absolute shit. Your body is always compensating for your problems and if you stop it from compensating it will be a lot worse doing that in the future.

At the same time, people with poor eyesight should wear glasses because it drastically improves the quality of their lives, and the same thing is true with ADHD. A lot of people think that ADHD is bullshit and not a real condition, these are usually the same people who think that depressed people should just "cheer the fuck up". Most people sometimes have a hard time focusing, just like most people are occasionally sad. This means that people who don't have a chronically debilitating disorder often think they understand what its like when they have no fucking idea.

I think I'm the only person on this forum that can take an opiate and get the same type of energy you guys describe from taking Adderall.

Which is what NZT does :)
