Paleo Living and Grains

Been doing primal/paleo for 4.5 months.

Good amount of weight lost plus nice body recomp. However, I do "cheat' 1-2x/week in the form of a pizza, or a piece of cake, dark chocolate, etc...

If you stay on target 90% of the time you're doing OK - actually much more than OK. So have your grains now and then if you crave them.

The biggest thing I can't really resist is milk. I buy organic skim now which I know is still processed, but I was coming off drinking 1/2 gallon of skim every day. Can't get enough of it.

Effective at doing what? Like I said, I'm mainly trying to cut out processed foods (which I thought was a huge factor in a paleo diet).

If you cut out animal products 100% and only eat plant based foods you'll never go back.

Not big on milk but i do have 2 DD's coffees/day with a little skim.

Again, if you cut out the real bad processed foods (i.e. shit that comes in a box), eliminate (except for cheat meals) sugar, starches, grains, and legumes, you'll reap the major benefits of paleo without having to be 100% strict.

Check out http://www.markdsdailyapple.com - a lot of good info on there and with a lot of user submitted food substitutes (e.g. you could replace skim milk w/ almond milk).

This and Food Inc. made me want to go vegetarian. I just started this month and it hasn't been to hard except for when I get drunk I slip and eat meat. Not to mention I've gained weight from all the carbs, I'm hoping cutting grains out will help.

What about trying almond milk? That shit's delicious lol.

Ive been following the Primal blueprint fairly well for a few months now, overall it has been amazing.

The hardest thing to drop has been milk and beer a few times a week... the rare occasions I do cheat and eat some pizza I end up feeling really sick afterwards. It wasn't until I cut out grains that I realised I actually have gluten allergies - no more feeling bloated after every meal!

I'm not sure about cutting out caffeine, it would probably be a good thing but I am pretty badly addicted to my morning coffees...

Food Inc. was fucking sad. That's why you should boycott all conventionally grown meat. However, if you shop at local farms (or even places like Whole Foods) you'll get animals that are treated humanely and fed their natural diets.

YES, I've been dairy free for like 4 years (well as much as possible) almond milk is great! The Vanilla flavored even still has less sugar than normal milk, let alone the puss, dioxins, hormones, ect.

Just try it without the bread and pasta for a while you'll feel so good you won't want them back. And if it doesn't work for you then try something else.

Is it impossible to live on a paleo diet and eat grains? Are all grains processed? (newb/lazy alert)

About 6 weeks ago I stopped purchasing all processed food at the grocery store. While it's not 100% paleo, everything I buy is organic (fruit, meat, milk, eggs, cheese, veggies) and I avoid anything processed.

I somewhat frequently eat out (1-2x a week) and order whatever my heart desires because I feel the fruits of science should be enjoyed. The one thing I'm really missing from my daily diet is grains...fruit/beef just doesn't fill me up like a bowl of pasta does.

Flour is made of grain. White flour is bleached to that color. The compound used to bleach flour is the same one used to induce diabetes in lab rats for testing.

That's how healthy it is.

Grab a bag of rice, man! Jasmine (Thai) rice is good shit, & you can eat it every day for a few pennies per meal!

As a Paleo noob, it is hard to tell what advice on this thread is serious and not. Is this serious? That would be cool.
