Hello,

I am thinking about creating a new URL Shortener Service and wanted to ask if you have a wish list of items that you would like to see in the service.

As you are probably aware, many affiliate marketers currently use URL shortener services so I want to try to make it even more powerful for the affiliate marketing community.

Please don't hesitate to PM me or post your opinions here.

Thanks,

Bob

Tracking obviously. Make it compatible with top-tier social bookmarking sites. Implement obfuscation somehow

It be interesting to have built in A/B testing too;
I'd like manual and dynamic options here as well
I'd like to be able to load up 10 urls and have them randomly served then based on some metric created by my site{javascript: maybe bounce rate?} "successful" urls get served more than non.

Also would like the ability to swap out destinations once a link has passed the sniff test at the site I dropped it on.

Soul,

Great feedback. Yes i think that can be implemented. Can we PM more about stats? I'd like to get your input on what stats will make you happy.

I'm really dedicated to get some good features into this since i just feel the stuff out on the marketplace isn't really focused on the affiliate marketing community.

@HockeyFan

Yes we intend to make it a paid service. Are there specific reasons why you would like it to be a paid service vs a free service?

Bob

have a paid service that you can choose url folder, so i can pay for an acct and have:

yourURLshortneningService.com/myaccountNICHENICHENICHE/abcdegftq.html

that way maybe you can squeze some kwds in there.

So basically you want an URL longening service?

@shawn

If I'm mistaken, you want to be able to have a subdirectory [which belongs to your account] and then the shorten code...

For example

shorturl.com/shawnhag/oISDKA

something like that?

I'm not sure if people would like that type of feature as 1. It gets away from the concept of having a short url 2. I'm not sure if there is any advantages of creating a subdirectory and displaying the user account within the shortened url.

Were there specific reasons that you would need something like this? You can PM me if you want or post in here. It doesn't sound like a strong feature but I'm still open if the reasons make sense.

The main thing i look for in a url shortening service is the ability not to go broke and close after a few months, thus killing all my links.
Convincing me of this is hard if you are not a) officially supported by twitter, fb or google, or b) expensive. I am also unlikely to pay for this type of service.

That major and probably insurmountable issue aside, the following would be nice:

Editable url destinations - i want to be able to change the destination url or a given link any time i want to.

decent stats

Referrer blanking/spoofing.

@l3msip

Thanks for your candidness. We have no intentions of going broke and have a development track record already.

Editable url destinations are definatley going to be a feature.

Decent stats - We need help knowing what would be considered decent stats. Since we don't come from an affiliate marketing background, we need to understand what are the stats that marketers would like to see.

Referrer blanking/spoofing - I'm not sure what this is. Is it possible that you elaborate on it within this Post or PM me? [PM is preferable]

Thanks,

Bob

Hello,

Ok the foundation of the short url program has been coded and ready to go with core features.

Some of the features that we have already in place:

1. Ability to create QR codes for the short url.
2. Ability to edit and assign a different destination url for the short url.
3. Ability to add multiple destination urls to each short url. The system will then rotate through all destination urls. This is perfect if you want to try out multiple affiliate for the same product to see which one pays more or converts better.

Would you like to test it and then suggest some features for us to add?

If so, let me know.

Thanks,

Bob
