Opinions on 2008 Acura TL type s

I'm looking for an extra car also and since we do not have snow nor ice in the majority of SoCal - I looked at the prices - What am I missing here... There are a dozen listed under $20K with similar mileage as asking price on cars.com within range of my zip. That means the real price is, what, $16K? Maybe $18K?
 


I wouldn't pay over over 18k. That extra 3-5k you save can go a long way in maintenance or upgrades.

Ebay, cars.com. You can see what they go for on the market.
 
i pretty much got the exact car that looks exactly the same. black on black TL. love it so far. and it actually has alot of curb appeal where people tell me nice car or is that a mercedes? haha

it had 120k miles so i got to score it for 10k. the previous owner put 50k in the last year as a traveling lawyer. sometimes what kind and how miles were put on tells you alot more than just the statistical number itself. at 120k the car runs like a champ.

thats high for a tl-s. wait for a better deal. ebay is also a great place to look. they tend to go for cheaper and you get a pretty good guarantee from ebay if anything needs repairs.

They are absolutely comparable to others in its class. The Type S is a fucking tank - but I still loved her. Any G37S will come out ahead, as RWD+a little bit more HP. Theres not much more you are going to get out of that TL though - that type S is fully tuned to 286hp+ and anything more would make it a sloppy mess. You will also get spanked by any 335x/i - I've left maxima's in the dust though...

You MAY want to look at the newer TL's SH-AWD. Those are nice! Not gonna hurt to walk into the dealership and see if they can crunch numbers on something new for you!

3rd generations FTW...the new TLs look like suped up saturns
 
I have the exact car in the o.p, same color.. 08' 30k miles.. It is a good car, the only issue I have are the Brembo's squeak on a light stops before they get warmed up.

Has plenty of speed, handles pretty good. I had a 97 RL before this one, drove it for 11 years with almost no issues, so got another Acura. I pay cash for cars and drive them until there is nothing left.

You can def go about as fast as you want in this, if your into extreme speed this is not the car for you there are many more choices out there, doing anything to this will cost you and is not worth it. You want speed for money get a new Mustang GT or Cobra, I wish they would make them look better,, but they are currently the best thing going for speed vs cash.

I took mine up to around 130 mph and it still had plenty to go about as fast as I need to go on public roads.

We are going to get a weekend toy one of these days as soon as I can talk the wife into it, really want to get something I never drive and can take to the track.

I have a 2002 TL-S that I bought in 2006. It's got 118k miles on it and runs like a dream. No doubt I've dinged it up with all sorts of nonsense but that engine just goes. I hit 127mph a couple years ago and it was smooth as hell.

It's getting old now and I could afford better, but why? I've put on about 2000 miles since going fully self employed and don't care about what I drive (my neighborhood is all walking and biking anyway). Besides, the car is still presentable.

My version is about as long as they made and has an awful turn radius. I've had a few humiliating U-Turns. Either way I love that thing and yours would be tons better. Acura easily gets first dibs on my business for my next car. I'd consider the MDX though for surfboards.

I'm not looking for extreme speed, but I have a feeling this will give me everything I want.

Out of curiousity, what does it cost you to insure this monthly? In the $150/month range?

I've got a friend with the 02 and I love that thing. He's had tranny problems though so I'm trying to avoid that generation of TLs.

Mean looking car. You can't understand its beauty until you see it in person.

Oh yeah should have mentioned that. The transmission was recalled on mine.

Shit was scary - it'd drop out of 3rd gear when shifting while going over hills. I could do it on command in this one street in Austin EVERY time.

I told the dealer how to replicate it and got a perfect, new tranny with 30k miles (that must have now just expired this past year). Never really thought about it again.

Was funny when looking at the Consumer Reports review of it. All red circles and then one giant BLACK filled circle on the transmission. "Oops!"
 
Just get it, if its CPO you have nothing to worry about. It's a honda so with proper maintenance it'll hit 200k without any major repair bills, maybe more if you baby it.
 
Isn't that a Honda Accord?

I'm definitely not hating. I think Hondas are great cars, we don't have Acuras here.
 
You can't go wrong with a Honda/Accura. I have a friend that had a v6 accord auto with well over 300k before someone totaled it for him. I think he replaced the air conditioning compressor at over 200k and not much else. I had a civic with over 140k zero problems.
