Anybody In Thailand/South East Asia?

You know what's ironic, tanned girls are considered hot in Western countries.

Just discussing the correlation between skin tone and being a prostitute is all.

Lots of white Thai girls are prostitutes. Some are out, like the coyote dancers at the big clubs, others are secretive like the "side-line girls" and "mia noi" that are kept by rich older Thai guys.

Lots of dark skinned Thai girls are prostitutes. Mostly in the tourist areas since they are considered unattractive by Thai standards.

Two different markets. The girls are quite different and the clients are quite different for the most part.

Truth is, the average fair skinned Thai hooker is way hotter than the average dark Thai hooker even by western standards. Taller, more refined features, better skin and hair, better educated and at least somewhat sophisticated versus short, dark, rough features, uneducated, crude talking poor taste in all things. Not that I want to insult someone's little darling if you happen to be hooked up with an Isaan girl but this is just how it is.

I don't frequent or associate with either group, but in my early years here in Thailand I thoroughly checked it all out. And it's common conversation among Thais since there are quite a few girls involved in it so many people know someone and the ladies love to gossip. It's even a common theme in many Thai soap operas, the mia noi, not the dark hookers who service foreigners.

tl;dr version: skin tone is not correlated with prostitution, just that hookers that westerns usually meet are dark

I have so many asian friends now that I got influenced by them, dark skinned girl as peasants in this country and low social status. This is ridiculous true if you goto hiso places. Some of the guys might be browner but the chicks are white...

lol

my gf's pretty tanned, drives a $200,000 car and lives 2 houses down from yingluck. there are exceptions to every rule.

imo the super white, inject cancer drugs to get whiter girls are revolting but to each their own. once you get into the really rich thais it's almost always the old central thai families which have money, and they're generally pretty brown.

agreed that the cracked out isaan women are disgusting though, but that's a level of unattractiveness that goes way beyond skin tone and looks. they're farm girls with no education at all and that whole scene is desperate and depressing.

ohh she drives a Volvo ;) man its redicuouls what cars cost in this country...

Yeah that shit they inject messes with the melantonin levels and will make you way more receptive for skin cancer.. But hey this pic I took the other day in cab

its quite fucked up how vain and how available it all is here.

@Tencent lets grab some mother fucking food :)

yeah the car tax is crazy. when I first moved here and heard about it I wondered why everyone didn't just drive a toyota since there's no way a mercedes with the same size engine etc is worth 3x as much. then you see how vain the whole country is and start to understand.

I'm out of town for 4 days but if you're still here on the 5th let's get drinks. PM me and we can work out where to meet up on Skype

The next 12-18 months are going to spent overseas for me, doing a mixture of work and holidaying. My first stop is Thailand although I'll be spending ~6 months in south east asia. If anybody wants to meet up/has any suggestions on where I should/shouldn't go let me know.

Would be great to meet some other IMers during my travels!
Damn, sorry man, you just missed me. As of yesterday I'm back in Kansas, but I just spent January in Bangkok. Would have said hi if you were in town.

My lease is up in November and I am seriously considering moving to Thailand for a good 6 months. From what I've read, most say it's about 1/5 the price compared to the U.S.
The real question here is "doing what?" I primarily stay in BKK so that sounds ludicrous to me, but a backwater beach town could easily fit in that range. Then take your purpose for being there (scuba, chicks, work) and your personal standards (X star hotel) and your $ will range all over.

...bangkok is better than hua hin for longer term stays. there's so much to do in bangkok. hua hin there isn't much at all to do but relax. chiang mai would be my next choice after (or even before) bangkok.
After I'd toured the ruins and city in Chiang mai, and taken the stupid cooking class, I was bored out of my mind there. That night market just wasn't acceptable! Meanwhile the daily life in BKK guarantees something new to see and taste every single friggin' day. How can you compare the two?

You've got to remember that life is cheap in some areas there and the longer you stay the more you can become a target of various "take that farang's assets" schemes, many of which involve violence or murder. It's got nothing to do with "being a pansy".
One of many reasons I prefer to live in the big city while there. Farang are something like 1/10th of the population there, too many other targets to get caught yourself. ;)

Krabi! Love it down there.

I stayed a week at the Amari resort down there and took a inland tour of Krabi itself. Did the islands, their cute little aquarium, Biked up and down the coastal strip a few miles, great times. Not nearly as many farang as you see up in BKK, even inside the resort... Lots of rich Thais there and few of us whities at all. (Meanwhile 20 miles NE in Phuket you won't find many thais except behind a counter...)

I'd say Krabi is my #2 favorite beach scene, mainly because there is not much pollution in that sea... Walking the beach was awesome and I came across a colony of BILLIONS of tiny crabs that piled up feet high that you could play with near the resort.

Koh Samui is still my favorite though. Simply awesome resorts & sights there.

Don't tell me; You snapped that pic for the sex change lead, didn't you? ;)

Wife and I did our honeymoon in Krabi. Niiice. Ao Nang and the islands just offshore were great for hanging out. But it gets pretty touristy, more every year, not liking it so much anymore. Actually, anywhere there are a lot of foreigners I don't like so much, which includes places like Koh Samui and Chiang Mai which are favorites of a lot of people but not me.

Hell yes!!!!

ohhh and a badss place if you like to get away from pasty white frank and family..

Check out Koh Liphe

there was also the top-ranked UFC fighter who got severely beat up by a bunch of Thais. Short blond pretty-boy surfer type... forgot his name

Junie Browning. In my experience of Thailand, having spent between two and three years there - strictly on vacation - if you are respectful and don't act like a drunken aggressive asshole, you won't have problems.
